We Fell In Love With…

That feathered bridal gown, a magical walled garden venue and the relaxed family vibes.

The Spring sun shone brightly for Catrin + Duncan’s Leuchie Walled Garden wedding in North Berwick. They went with their hearts and chose an intimate micro wedding with close family followed by a family and friends BBQ the next day. We love the relaxed feel of their beautiful big day!

TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY

We met online 8 years ago when we both lived down south and would spend our weekends travelling to see each other. We then decided to re-locate up to Scotland to be closer to Duncan’s family.

When we were looking for a house, we loved East Lothian so when it came to choosing a wedding venue we knew we wanted that to be in East Lothian too. We found Leuchie Walled Garden online and fell in love with the garden straight away. The accommodation was also perfect for both of our families to stay for the weekend, so it was a no brainer! When we visited to look around, the owner Hew Dalrymple was lovely and extremely welcoming and we just knew the house and garden was perfect.

We decided on a May wedding in the hope of sunshine and beautiful fresh flowers in the garden. We had no theme but it was family orientated and intimate. On the day after the wedding we had a casual BBQ with friends and family at Leuchie too. We did all the preparations ourselves with help from both of our families.

The main challenge for came the day before our wedding when we were packing up the car to head over to Leuchie for the weekend and our water tank burst! It required an emergency plumber to come out and fix it which meant we only just made it in time to pick up the marriage certificate!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS

I wore a Rebecca Vallance ostrich feather trimmed fishtail dress. I bought it online 2 weeks before the wedding having looked in almost every bridal shop in Wales and Edinburgh without much luck. I found the process of finding a dress quite stressful as a lot of places didn’t really have the type of dress I was looking for. But in the end it all worked out as soon I opened up “the dress” I just knew it was the one straight away.

Duncan hired his jacket from Slanj to go with his own McLaren kilt. He tried a few different colour options but went for lovat blue in the end as felt it gave a spring/summer feel and brought the colours out of his tartan so nicely.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY

We had our ceremony outside in the walled garden. We were lucky enough for the sun to be shining for the whole ceremony too.

We chose a humanist service as we felt that’s what suited us best. We had Iain Whitelaw carry out the ceremony and had chosen him as he had also married Duncan’s sister 2 years earlier and did such an amazing job.

We chose to incorporate both of our roots into the service and had a Welsh and Scottish whisky mix in the quaich.

TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION

We had canapes on the lawn after the ceremony which were exceptional – the blue cheese and fig croustades being a stand out along with the same champagne served at Mandela’s inauguration and Obamas presidential win, sounds fancy (but was cheaper than the french stuff!).

We made our own playlist with music from Olafur Arnalds and Ben Bohmer, check out the Ben Bohmer Cercle Mix on YouTube it’s a banger! After this we had our own eclectic mix of music to play for the rest of the afternoon.

Our cake was made by Catrin’s favourite cafe in Wales, a carrot passion cake and then decorated by Catrin’s mum on the morning of the wedding.

Our wedding breakfast was catered by Pop. We had a crispy duck salad or cured sea trout to start, followed by fillet of beef or halibut for mains, and chocolate or lemon for dessert. All out of this world!
