A LOCHGREEN HOUSE HOTEL WEDDING ON THE AYRSHIRE COAST

Sarah + Colin came from the other side of the world to celebrate their love with family and friends on the beautiful Ayrshire coast.

“There was no way I could plan a wedding in Scotland from Australia! Our wedding planner was amazing and made sure we had zero challenges!”

We Fell In Love With…

The family feel, a full pipe band, elegant decor and romantic beach portraits .

Sarah and Colin travelled all the way from their home in Australia to bring their Scottish and Irish families together for their big day. A Lochgreen House Hotel wedding on Scotland’s Ayrshire coast was the perfect choice for them. Not to mention, the whole day was planned to perfection by our very own Cat from Fin Flükra.

Read on to find out all about their story, with some gorgeous inspiration for those who are planning their own wedding.

TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY

We met in 2013 on holiday in Tenerife! Very romantic haha! We emigrated to Australia together in 2014 and still live here 10 years later.

We originally wanted to get married here in Australia but because we wanted all our families and friends from Ireland and Scotland to attend, it would be easier to have it on that side of the world. We wanted a summer wedding and a kid-friendly wedding so July school holiday time was perfect.

I am an organisational freak but there was no way I could plan a wedding in Scotland from Australia so we hired Cat from Fin Flükra and she was amazing!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS

My dress was by Australian designer Martina Liana. I loved the silk, it was buttery soft, but the bodice didn’t feel right so we took the bodice from one of her other dresses and made a custom design. I got my dress in Tuscany Bridal in Perth. It was the first and only store I went into and it was the third dress I tried on! I went to this first appointment by myself because I wanted to get a feel for what kind of dress I would like. I never thought I would pick my dress there and then!

Colin and his groomsmen rented their kilts from Juliettes in Dumbarton. Colin knew he wanted to wear grey so we decided to go with sage green for the bridesmaids to compliment the colour of the kilts. My bridesmaids were my sisters and they wore TH&TH Phoebe Bridesmaid dresses in sage chiffon.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY

We chose a humanist ceremony as neither of us are religious and humanism was the best fit for us. It was relaxed and personal, no bells and whistles, just how we wanted it.

We had beautiful readings by Colin’s sister and niece, and my friend Claire. We had one of the groomsmen Bache and bridesmaid Chloe light the unity candles, and our mothers Rita and Lyn as witnesses. We chose to have a Handfasting ceremony with a Scottish tartan and an Irish tartan.

The space needed minimal decorating because it was so beautiful as it was! Flowers by the amazing Floral Menagerie to enhance the space.

I walked down the aisle to an instrumental version of David Gray’s You’re The One I Love.

TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION

Lochgreen House Hotel provided so many amazing wedding menus and we found it really easy to choose what we wanted. We had a choice of two starters and two mains and just one dessert, mango cheesecake, reminiscent of our time in Broome working at a mango farm back in 2015!

Beautiful food, touching speeches and great music surrounded by all of our loved ones!
