After setting their hearts on Kinkell Byre, a converted cowshed in Fife, Lynsey and David jumped at the chance of a late September wedding when the date unexpectedly freed up. From the colourful, autumnal flowers to the atmospheric lighting, if you’re planning a rustic barn wedding there’s lots to be inspired by here.
Love at first sight or gradual attraction?
Having known each other since first year at high school, it probably goes down as gradual attraction. However, once we finally got together it was always going to be forever!
What inspired your wedding plans?
We were so excited about Kinkell Byre as soon as we saw it online and in magazines, however when we enquired it was fully booked in 2019. As a result we went to see lots of other venues first but none compared to Kinkell. We eventually went to see Kinkell in January 2019 and we loved it, instantly knowing it was where we wanted to get married. We decided to compromise on the date then luckily, and rarely, we managed to get a cancellation and we were ecstatic.
It is a one of a kind venue, there is so much space and so much potential to do whatever you can imagine. It really is a blank canvas and allows you to make your wedding your own. It is made even more magical by the gorgeous lights that can be adapted to suit your own day. We loved that you can have the full day in the one venue without reusing the same space in the byre. The outside space is great and the views over the golf courses and the sea are amazing!
We couldn’t possibly imagine getting married anywhere else. And miraculously we got lucky with the weather.
We made our own invitations just using some leaf and autumnal prints, and green envelopes with wax seal.
Your photos are so atmospheric!
Firstly Carole-Ann is amazing, her photos captured every moment of our day perfectly. The pictures are so relaxed which is exactly what we wanted our day to be. Secondly we had so much fun with Carole-Ann and Kathryn whilst getting photos taken. All our friends and family have commented on how they think the pictures capture our personalities. We really have struggled to pick our favourites because there are just so many.
We love your dress! Tell us more…
I wore a Badgley Mischka dress from Melle Cloche with ivory embroidered lace and georgette. I wanted something quite simple with just a little something. I also had a veil from Melle Cloche. This is one of the very first dresses I tried on in the first shop I went to and I liked it immediately.
I went to another two shops and although I liked lots I just didn’t feel 100%. We went back to Melle Cloche maybe two weeks later and I was sure this was the right one.
What was your first dance song?
How Long Will I Love You by The Waterboys which lead into Kasabian’s ‘Put your life on it’. My uncle’s band flew over from Jersey and performed for the first dance. They also played for our ceremony and drinks reception.
Did you manage to stick to your budget?
Hahahahahahahaha, absolutely not but it was worth every penny.
Any advice?
Don’t stress on the small things, make decisions together and enjoy every minute!
Honeymoon or minimoon?
Honeymoon – We flew to Bali a week after we got married (after attending a wedding in Ireland). We travelled round Seminyak, Ubud and then Gili Trawangan. It was the perfect combination of relaxing, partying, sightseeing and spending our first weeks together as husband and wife.
What’s the one moment you’ll always remember?
David: For me it was Lynsey walking down the aisle, very cheesy I know but she took my breath away and I’ll never forget it.
Such great advice from Lynsey and David. And is anyone else in love with the colours and textures in these flowers?! So gorgeous. x
