Today our spotlight is shining on Weddings by Hayley & Craig – a creative husband and wife photography team with a relaxed, natural style.
They adore what they do – working together to create a beautiful documentation of your wedding day and also having fun along the way. As documentary wedding photographers, they love to capture the real moments and connections between each couple they meet.
How did you get into wedding photography?
Craig and I got into wedding photography together by mistake. I was already a newborn photographer and I did a few weddings with Craig as my back up, we never intended for this to be a career for us both, but we had so much fun working together and we decided to go and train with some of the best photographers in the world, people that really inspired us. Our passion for the industry was born.
What do you love most about your work?
We love bringing out the real personalities of our couples when we shoot with them. Not everyone will be comfortable being intimate in front of the camera. We tune into how our couples are with each other and go with their cues. Sometimes the shoot is full of banter and laughter and sometimes it’s full of passion or both. It really does depend on the couple and we love that about our work, it can be so diverse just because humans are so diverse.
Craig and I love nothing more than travelling around Scotland photographing weddings. Some of our favourite places are Glencoe, Loch an Eilean or just on our doorstep in Aberdeenshire. People travel from all over the world to get married in Scotland and being Scottish wedding photographers has given us such amazing privileges to visit some truly awesome places in Scotland as part of our job. We both get a buzz from travel and real human connection and whether it is out in the wild or cosy indoor vibes, we love to capture all the real emotions and true feelings of your wedding day. We leave each wedding feeling like we have made new friends and the best thing ever is lots of couples then also come back to visit Hayley in the studio with a growing family. We are so lucky to have such an incredible career.
Who, or what, inspires you?
Our peers and other photographers in this industry. We would not be where we are today without being inspired by some of the amazing photographers we have met and we get to call them our friends too. We also love other artists and photographers that are not in this industry.
Where do you see yourself in five years time?
Probably in a similar place to where we are now. We are really happy travelling around Scotland shooting weddings and meeting new people. We have a young family and our ambition is to continue doing what we love as well as making the most of family life.
Tell us a secret…
Craig is a charmer and will no doubt flirt with your granny. It’s no secret that I’m tiny but some people are still surprised by my height when they meet me. I take a stool with me on the couples shoot to combat my short problems!
On a day off, we’ll find you where?
Probably taking our kids to the beach or out to dinner. We really love travel too. When we can make the time we take our whole family on holiday. Sometimes that’s in the Scottish Highlands and sometimes that’s much further afield. We have been called crazy for taking our kids on a trip to Japan but it was an amazing adventure for us all.
