Spotlight on Sinéad Firman Photography

Today we’re hella excited to introduce you to Sinéad Firman Photography. There is genuinely nothing that makes Sinéad happier than photographing people in love. Her photographic style is bright and colourful, with lots of smiles and joy.

Take Sinéad anywhere, she will be thrilled to take it all in and make the best of it. A lover of the outdoors, she is not afraid of a bit of weather but also loves what an urban Scottish wedding brings to the table – symmetry, history and a whole lot of romance!

Not only is she a wonderful human to be around but her work gives us ALL THE FEELS!

How did you get into wedding photography?

I’ve always been artistic, but could never quite lock in to my medium… I studied Business and Arts Management at art school, knowing I had to be immersed in it all but not being sure which avenue to go down back then. I always had a camera in a hand and when I moved to Scotland, it became a lot clearer what I wanted to do.

People watching and working to understand their interactions was an unspoken hobby of mine and when I second shot my first wedding, I knew for sure this was what I had to do for a living.

What do you love most about your work?

My favourite thing about my job is taking in all of the love between people, making sure to be present and reading the signs, preempting important moments so as not to miss anything.

I want to tell the story. At weddings, emotions are high and it is the best time to really see and capture how people feel about their most important humans (and often quadrupeds).

I’d like to think this is at the forefront of my photography style and content. You do what you do and I’ll do what I do and we’ll get exactly what we want!

Who/what inspires you?

My clients and their visions! The outdoors, architecture and my houseplants dancing in the sun.

What’s been the highlight so far?

My clients’ stories! I think hearing about their journeys as humans and as lovers is always one of the highlights for me.

The world is full of mad little coincidences, things aren’t easy for anyone but fate is real and we find our ways to be content and on great days, very happy.

I really enjoy (possibly over) analysing the connections and common ground between us ALL and I feel like the world just keeps getting smaller. I love how both our differences and similarities bring us together. (I’m a cheese ball but I kind of don’t care!)

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

Still doing what I love, photographing weddings. I’ll have a garden and a dog though.

Tell us something you’d rather nobody knew…

Clutter freaks me out! I’ll find myself rearranging items on tables while socialising. I feel like I can see dishes piling up with my eyes closed, not just in my own home either. It’s embarrassing to get caught “organising” people’s kitchen counters and straightening visibly lop-sided objects and items subconsciously.

However, it’s all for show. Behind closed cupboard doors, drawers and under the lids of my many boxes of junk, I live in chaos.

I’m a hoarder, but I live in fear of appearing as one. Someone please analyse that! I guess I’m a neat freak with a dirty secret!

On a day off, we’ll find you where?

Pre-pandemic; Out exploring, I love a long journey. I love being outdoors, camping and spending time with the people I love.

I used to like having parties and inviting EVERYONE I knew to see how they all gel, bringing people together was my favourite! But that was in my 20s, so I think that’s over.

Now I like long walks (in a loop on the Water of Leith walkway), long phone calls with my mam and friends, and working out.

It feels like a different world away but I can’t wait for when we are allowed to take road trips, visit friends and family, and breathe the fresh air of new places.

What Sinéad’s couples say:

“We cannot recommend Sinéad highly enough. We had to change our wedding plans earlier this year due to Coronavirus and she was extremely understanding and flexible. We could rely on her entirely to work around what was an incredibly fluid situation.

“My husband and I are not the most comfortable in front of a camera but we felt completely relaxed having our pictures taken and this was down to Sinéad’s calm and friendly nature. She took photos and chose locations that made us feel really comfortable and we were so over the moon with the pictures when we saw them.

“There has been such a lovely response to our pictures and this is entirely owed to Sinéad’s work – she always produces such beautiful quality pictures.

“If you want a photographer for your occasion who is talented, instinctive, warm and friendly as well as professional – look no further. We would be so pleased if she covered all of the special moments in our lives in the future.”

And if Sinéad’s work looks familiar, it may be because her photography features on the cover of Issue 7…
