Where to begin as we come to the end of 2020?
It’s been the worst of times. And also, the best of times. An endurance event of a year.
There’s been stress and anxiety, worry and fear. And so much pain. But also joy. And laughter. And, always, love.
Many couples have had to postpone their weddings again and again. Some viable businesses have, devastatingly, had to close.
Meanwhile, we’ve seen the rise of the micro wedding. And of community. And creativity.
It’s been a year of having everything stripped back. And seeing what is truly important. Some have been thriving. Others have been struggling to survive. We’ve heard it many times but while we are all weathering the same storm, we truly are in different boats.
And this is against a global backdrop of not just a pandemic, but a rallying cry to wake up to the devastating consequences of white supremacy and to dismantle systemic racism. This is a movement not a moment. And we all need to keep doing the work.
WHAT. A. YEAR.
Along the way we’ve been gathering your real love stories. And collecting moments of joy to share with our community.
A huge thank you to all the folks who have so generously shared their stories and photos to inspire others, and to all the creatives who have contributed to this issue. A special shoutout goes to writer Michelle Hopewell, who is joining us here for the first time and whose wise, empowering words we are thrilled to share.
