TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY

Like many modern love stories, ours began online during the pandemic. We first matched on Facebook Dating, but just as we started talking, Fraser returned to work at sea and life got in the way. Six months later, I spotted him again on Bumble, where he smoothly messaged to say he couldn’t believe I was still available and asked me out straight away. Fate had one more hurdle in store when Fraser tested positive for COVID just before our first date, but I knew he was serious when he rearranged it for exactly ten days later – and the rest is history!
As huge lovers of food, travel and the outdoors, we wanted our wedding to feel completely authentic to us. We instantly fell in love with The Byre at Inchyra and knew its rustic barn, beautiful walled garden and magical woodland perfectly suited the relaxed, nature-inspired celebration we envisioned. Choosing late spring meant we could make the most of the bluebells and wild garlic in bloom, creating a stunning backdrop for our photographs.
We planned the entire wedding ourselves, with many evenings affectionately dubbed our “Wedding War Room” as we worked through endless to-do lists together. The biggest challenge was balancing wedding planning around Fraser’s time away at sea, but it became something we tackled as a team. Looking back, those months of planning from a distance made finally seeing everything come together on the day even more rewarding.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS

I wore an off shoulder gown with pearl touches, my favourite bit was the pearly boob detail!! I had a long veil with lace detail on the trim. My dress was from Sarah Louise Bridal. It was an absolute dream dress. I visited three shops before I decided on the one. The poor ladies in the shop were stuck with me as I kept going between two dresses and couldn’t decide! It took me sitting, fake dancing and lots of photos to finally decide!
My bridesmaids wore pretty lavish sage green dresses, all different style as I wanted it to reflect their individuality.
The groom and groomsmen got their kilts from MacGregor & MacDuff with the Harris tartan, to reflect Fraser’s ancestry and the brown, green, orange theme added perfectly to the vibe of the day.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY

We had Reverend Hazel Jane conduct a spiritual, inclusive, interfaith ceremony as that’s who we are as people; we believe we were brought together for a reason and love every single human for being who they are authentically. So we had verses from the bible read, the traditional Celtic quaich ceremony and Lord of the Rings quotes.
We got married in the walled garden, I walked down an apple blossom aisle to Fraser who was standing with a deconstructed flowered and greenery arch; one tall and one short just like us. It perfectly blended in with the surroundings.
We did panic about the weather because it’s Scotland! But I enforced I’d be getting married outside, and lo and behold; the sun came out as soon I came down the aisle. Something Fraser said he’ll never forget the magical site of as long as he shall live; it was like heaven shining down on me.
TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION

Food and music were two of the most important elements of our day, as they both reflect so much of who we are as a couple. We wanted our guests to experience the things we love most, with a menu designed around our favourite flavours and memories. The meal celebrated my love of seafood, featuring luxurious touches like caviar and beautifully prepared scallops, while the main course was inspired by Fraser’s favourite – perfectly cooked beef. For dessert, guests could choose between Fraser’s sweet tooth favourite, a rich chocolate brownie, or a Sicilian-inspired vegan lemon and basil tart with olive oil pastry and roasted peach sorbet, inspired by the place where Fraser proposed. Our cake was also designed to be a little different from tradition – a deconstructed three-tier ombré sponge, with each tier bringing a different flavour combination of lemon, cherry and raspberry.
Music was just as personal. As a bagpiper himself, Fraser dreamed of filling the day with incredible Scottish music, so we were thrilled to have some of the best musicians in Scotland join us. Ross Ainslie played the bagpipes, while Lorne MacDougall led our ceilidh band, creating the perfect atmosphere for a true Scottish celebration. Later in the evening, DJ Ally Bongo took over and kept the dance floor full well into the night, finishing with Born Slippy as the ultimate final song. And, of course, no Scottish wedding would be complete without a late-night hog roast to keep everyone going for one last dance.
ANY LESSONS LEARNED OR ADVICE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?

One of the biggest challenges we faced was learning that not everyone will prioritise your wedding in the same way you do. Planning such a meaningful day can sometimes highlight unexpected things about the people around you, and there were moments where we had to accept that some people may not show up in the way you hoped they would. However, it also reminded us of something much more important – the people who do show up, who support you, and who go out of their way to be part of your journey.
We were incredibly grateful for the love, encouragement and effort from those who stood beside us, and it made us appreciate even more that a wedding is ultimately about celebrating with the people who truly matter.
