We Fell In Love With…

Having your wedding at home (with your dogs!), the relaxed feel, a stunning flower crown, and the backdrop of beautiful rural countryside.

When you call a converted church home, it’s no surprise that it would make the perfect DIY wedding venue. Linnea and Gregor created their dream day with laid back summer vibes and we couldn’t love it more.

Read on below for the stunning inspiration and stay tuned to the end to get some very practical advice from this beautiful couple.

TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY

We both grew up in Luxembourg and met at school. Now we’ve made a home together in Scotland, in a beautiful converted church in the Scottish Borders.

When we got engaged we dreamt of holding our wedding at home, in the summer. We made that dream a reality! We wanted to keep our decor simple and pretty, with lots of seasonal flowers from Pyrus Botanicals. The whole day was very DIY and we did most of it ourselves.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS

Mette from Freja Design in Edinburgh made Linnea’s wedding dress based on two of her favourite dresses. As we live in Scotland Linnea knew she needed practical, comfortable footwear – Birkenstocks and Ariat boots! Her beautiful shawl came from Sling Studio and her earrings and rings were from Linnea’s mum and grandmothers.

Gregor’s Oatmeal Twill suit came from Walker Slater.

TELL US ABOUT THE CEREMONY

One of our favourite dog walks takes us right past Eddleston Parish Church, a 12th century old stone church. We couldn’t think of anywhere better to hold our wedding ceremony.

The building is beautiful, both inside and outside, so we had no additional decorations in there. During our ceremony Linnea’s mum read 1 Corinthians 13. We also had a ring warming ceremony, passing our wedding rings amongst our loved ones so they could ‘warm’ them with their blessings and well wishes.

TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION

Straight after the ceremony we all went for lunch at No. 1 Peebles Road, just a short drive from the church.

Then it was back to ours for cake, champagne and picnic food. It was all very relaxed, just as we wanted! In the evening we had pizza from the brilliant Wood Fired Guys, followed by a second round of cake.

ANY LESSONS LEARNED OR ADVICE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?

Have a backup plan! Even with the best will in the world things may not always go as planned. Due to unforeseen circumstances one of our suppliers had to cancel, but it all worked out in the end.

So, be flexible, have a plan b and remember that as long as you end the day married (which you will!) that’s all that really matters.
