TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY

We met in London, at Notting Hill Carnival through mutual mates and fell into a ‘will they, won’t they, when the hell will they!’ Dave popped the question in Troon while visiting Lucy’s parents for the holidays in 2021.

We knew we wanted a chilled but fun day with all our best people. Visually, we wanted bright and fun flowers, which Thistle Du Florists absolutely nailed! An outdoor ceremony was something we had our fingers crossed for and luckily Scotland delivered it’s one day of high summer for us!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS

Lucy’s dress was from Saville London, Dave’s suit was bespoke.

Our bridesmaids had free rein to wear anything black from jumpsuits to dresses and the groomsmen rented black suits. With all the bright flowers in the bouquets and buttonholes, the black outfits looked fab.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY

We had a bright and quirky ceremony. Lucy went to school with our celebrant Ronit, who was amazing. Our ceremony was really chilled and filled with laughter and a few tears.

Paul Andrews, our photographer, was brilliant – really laid back, funny and so talented, capturing moments instead of staging them.

After the ceremony, we really wanted to make sure we took half an hour to be selfish and high tailed it down to the beach to pop a bottle and celebrate.

TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION

We had a boojie BBQ with everything from king prawns to ribs along with vegan alternatives.

With the amazing weather, guests were outside playing golf and lawn games, milling about on the decking area then later we had dancing with the band.

We had a 3-tiered cake of lemon drizzle, toffee sponge and victoria sponge which was GONE as soon as it was cut and laid.

ANY LESSONS LEARNED OR ADVICE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?

We’re both pretty laid back and had originally planned to get married in London until Lucy’s dad was diagnosed in early 2022. We decided to just go for it, and after another couple had moved their date last minute, managed to get a date with the Piersland for 10 weeks time and we finally got to claim that cliche C.V line of “thriving under pressure”.

In hindsight, we wouldn’t do anything differently, our wedding didn’t become this monster of a thing, instead we made decisions on gut instinct and had a LOT of favours from friends, family and suppliers to fit us in or rush the outfits.

Biggest lesson is that where there’s a will there’s a way, and a lot of people went above and beyond for us to help make our day super special.
