A CAMBO ESTATE WEDDING COMPLETE WITH BRASS BAND AND A “FORMAL FESTIVAL” VIBE
FEATURING
Kelly + Alex’s fun filled wedding with musical surprises and one mega party!
“Although they’re magical and fun-filled, weddings can be extremely stressful to plan and execute, so it’s crucial to take breaks and look after your own well-being. Ultimately, remember that it’s your and your partner’s day, so do what makes you both happy.”

We Fell In Love With…
The musical touch, film noir photoshoot, vintage ice cream truck and a floral extravaganza!
A murder mystery dinner marked the start of Kelly and Alex’s fun filled wedding weekend. With musical surprises, a late night jam session and a packed dance floor, this was one mega party and we absolutely love Fern Photography’s colourful, joyful images.
Read on to see some stunning inspiration and don’t skip the last part that has some brilliant advice from our lovely couple.
TELL US ABOUT YOU TWO + YOUR WEDDING JOURNEY
We first crossed paths in our late teens. It was one of those serendipitous moments where we instantly clicked. However, life had its way of keeping us apart for a while .
Fate brought us back together when Alex moved to Edinburgh. We decided to give our budding connection a real chance, and it was the easiest and most natural decision either of us had ever made. It felt like coming home.
We always knew we wanted a big party wedding, filled with all our friends and family. After searching for the perfect place we found Cambo Estate. It was love at first sight with its stunning scenery and ample space.
Cambo Estate invites the wedding couple to arrive on Thursday for a relaxed day together before the festivities begin. On Friday, our close friends and family joined us for a murder mystery dinner party, setting the stage for a weekend of celebration. Saturday was the big day, filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. To top it all off, we could still use the space on Sunday for a laid-back BBQ. This long weekend made our wedding experience truly unique and memorable.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR OUTFITS
We chose wedding outfits that were a perfect blend of our personal styles and family heritage.
Kelly’s Freja Designer Dressmaker dress was inspired by silver screen starlets. She chose a silk, off-the-shoulder dress with a large skirt and train. Mette (Freja Designer Dressmaker) also added lace sleeves.
To complement the dress she wore a vintage white lace choker and her grandmother’s diamond earrings, which she wore on her own wedding day. Instead of a traditional veil, she opted for a small hair comb adorned with dried red flowers.
Alex wore a kilt made from Ross tartan (his mother’s family) and a green velvet Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CEREMONY
Our ceremony was a wonderful mix of heartfelt moments, beautiful wildflowers and musical surprises.
We wanted the flowers to be an important feature, so enlisted Blue Poppy Florist to make it look like “a bomb of flowers” had gone off in the ballroom!
Alex is a long-time member of a soul and gospel choir who stood next to him as his groomsmen. They performed soulful numbers to entertain everyone before the ceremony began.
Linda Stewart performed our humanist ceremony. She was lovely and aligned perfectly with our values. After our kiss, Brass Gumbo burst through a side door playing Everlasting Love. The choir joined in, and we all formed a joyous procession out of the ballroom to the reception area.
TELL US ABOUT THE RECEPTION
The overall vibe of our reception was that of a formal festival. Brass Gumbo played lively music throughout. We had a tarot card reader and a wandering magician. Outside, a Luca’s vintage ice cream truck was stationed next to a fountain.
We transformed the billiard room in the house into a photoshoot space inspired by our love for old noir films.
The evening meal, provided by Shardanna Catering, was a delicious Italian feast. Our cake was made by Sandra’s Cakes in St. Andrews. It was a beautiful three-tiered creation covered in deep blue icing and adorned with intricate wildflowers made of icing.
For the first hour of dancing, we had a ceilidh. Later, Bohemian Monk Machine, a funk band, took the stage. Halfway through their set, the choir joined them on stage for a big jam session.
We had two canvas bell tents set up, filled with beautiful vintage furniture by Sole et Luna and stocked with instruments and a PA system. Many of our friends are musicians, so we had a jam session that lasted well into the early hours.
ANY LESSONS LEARNED OR ADVICE YOU’D LIKE TO SHARE?
Our biggest challenges when planning the wedding were family politics and the logistics of the event.
Joanna, the wedding coordinator at the venue, was invaluable in helping us navigate these complexities. As for family politics, sometimes you need to take a deep breath and walk away.
Although they’re magical and fun-filled, weddings can be extremely stressful to plan and execute, so it’s crucial to take breaks and look after your own well-being. Ultimately, remember that it’s your and your partner’s day, so do what makes you both happy.
