AN ABERDEEN WEDDING WITH A FOREST ADVENTURE
FEATURING
Drawing inspiration from Italian weddings and the Pacific Coast, Evelyn and Robert tied the knot in an intimate city wedding before heading out into the woods for these gorgeous photos. Something tells us you may fall a little in love with Evelyn’s bespoke dress, which is a nod to her love of iconic 80s bridal style.
Where did your love story begin?
We started talking through Tinder 7 years ago, kept in touch regularly on Instagram and Whatsapp, and finally took it a level further and began dating in January 2020, but officially met in July 2020 in Aberdeen Airport when the Covid 19 restrictions loosened up a bit! I didn’t have my glasses so Robert saw me first from afar.
What inspired your wedding plans?
Italian weddings and the Pacific Coast inspired my wedding. It was gonna be just friends and family, a really small ceremony. My wedding dress was made in the Dominican Republic and partly designed by my best friend. I did my own hair and makeup. I also added purple thistles to my bouquet because I loved how weird they look. We were handfasted.
Tell us about your venue…
The ceremony was at Marischal College, and the reception at Carmelite Hotel. It’s located in the city centre, so it was perfect for the guests to find it. Their services were great.
We got married in Scotland because we are going to settle here but we are going to have a bigger wedding next year in the Dominican Republic.
We love your outfits! Tell us more…
I didn’t try any dresses. I knew exactly what I wanted and had it done for me, I didn’t rent it or buy it in a store. I wanted to wear something timeless with a hint of 80s.
I think pompous bridal dresses from the 80s are so iconic. We chose a silky fabric because it was going to be a spring wedding and I wanted something flowy. I bought Amina Muaddi white pump shoes and Robert wore basic black shoes, he’s not into fashion as much as me. He wore a beige tartan kilt, he was trying to find his family’s tartan, but ultimately chose the beige one.
How did you choose your photographer?
I found Clarke after a quick Google search. What attracted me more about his style was how authentic and natural they look; not over edited or really staged! Just genuine moments and good quality.
Tell us more about the flowers and florist…
The bouquet had a boho vibe and was made of artificial flowers (I like sustainability). There were white peonies, big green leaves and I added purple thistles to reflect my spirit.
Were there any challenges along the way?
A pandemic! We had to postpone the wedding a few times because of the Covid 19 restrictions and sometimes had to pause planning completely. It was very frustrating!
Any advice?
Don’t have your Bachelorette the night before your wedding!
Honeymoon or minimoon?
Minimoon in Edinburgh! We spent three days exploring the city. It was my first time going there, we went to Edinburgh Castle, a few thrift stores, Dean Village, Outlander locations and ate and drank a lot!
