FEATURING

After falling in love with Sorn Castle, Nic and Danny planned the traditional Scottish wedding of their dreams from 5,000 miles away. Their elegant, fun-filled day is making us smile.

We met on a night out in Dubai in 2014 where we both worked internationally as teachers. The night was a blur and the memory of meeting each other was just about the only thing we could remember. We met up later that week and the rest is history!

What inspired your wedding plans?

We both love to socialise, bring people together and have fun. Working abroad makes us appreciate Scotland even more, so the traditional Scottish castle wedding was always the plan.

Tell us about your venue…

The perfect venue! We fell in love with Sorn Castle at first sight. The outside areas, the marquee and the River Ayr running alongside the castle made it our first choice venue. We also loved that there was so many options for accomodation making it really practical for our guests. Martin and the team at Sorn put on an amazing night before party for us and lots of the guests came to meet each other and have drinks the night before, allowing celebrations to start early.

We love your outfits! Tell us more…

Stella York! First dress I tried on, fell in love with it. The easiest purchase I have ever made!

Martin stepped in to help us when our original photographers could no longer do our new date. He was highly recommended by them and after a quick look on his instagram I knew he was the man to save the day. His pictures are bright, beautiful and full of fun. We wanted relaxed photos and we really didn’t want to take hours getting them done. Martin was super speedy and took so many pictures without us even noticing him being there.

Not only is he an amazing photographer but Martin is such a character and was an absolute joy to have at our big day! Our guests commented on how happy and positive he was throughout the whole day. He was chatting to everyone and by the end he just felt like another guest. We were thrilled with all our pictures, he captured the day perfectly.

Tell us more about the flowers…

Jo, the owner of Flowers at 7, is an absolute pro at what she does. She is well known in the area for doing beautiful wedding flowers. Having been a bridesmaid at four weddings that she had done I knew of her and knew I definitely wanted her for the day. She is able to pull together a vision but also is conscious of keeping you in budget, which for people like me who get carried away is very helpful! Jo has a fantastic sense of humour and a huge heart and seeing her on the wedding morning really set the tone for the day.

What was your first dance song?

Ronan Keating – Lovin Each Day. We definitely aren’t a couple who would have a slow dance. Danny’s karaoke song is anything by Ronan. The song always makes us both smile so it was an easy choice.

The band were incredible at playing to the crowd, it felt like being at a gig. The energy was constant and they clearly love performing for everyone.

Our band were exceptional it was like they knew the soundtrack to my life. My family are big into music and they impressed everyone. Class act.

Were there any challenges along the way?

Covid covid covid. Planning a wedding during covid is hard enough and being 5,000 miles away definitely didn’t help. The stress was all worth it.

Any advice?

It really is the most special time to celebrate your relationship with the people you love most. Take time to be alone with your partner on the big day, even just for a minute and just enjoy watching the day go on around you. Take it all in, its magic.

Honeymoon or minimoon?

After the wedding we climbed Ben Nevis, visited Skye and the Isles of Harris and Lewis. For our honeymoon to the Seychelles, we went during our October holidays. Absolutely beautiful!

What’s the one moment you will always remember?

My brother closing the wedding by singing with the band – the whole wedding packed the dancefloor and sang their hearts out too. Pure magic!
