An autumn country estate wedding

FEATURING

With its Gothic church, beautiful grounds and sea views, Dunglass Estate stole Mandy and Moray’s hearts. With the help of friends and family, they created a day that was laidback, fun and full of personal touches. We can’t wait to see our skies light up with love like this again…

How did you two meet?

We were introduced by a mutual friend at a pub quiz. Three months later we met again at the Edinburgh festival and we started dating from then on.

What inspired your wedding plans?

We wanted a mix between DIY and just a chilled out, fun vibe. We looked around venues in East Lothian and when we went to Dunglass Estate, it stood out to us because of the beautiful grounds and unique historic church where our ceremony would take place. And the accommodation on site was enough to fit both of our big families in!

We love to climb hills, so all the stationery was hill/Munro/Scotland themed. It was a bespoke design by Bottled Love.

Sarah, a family friend who did the flowers, was a total legend. I had very little input other than showing her a couple of photos of bouquets and she put everything together so beautifully – the flowers looked incredible.

A massive thanks goes to my mum for the majority of the DIY elements – lots of gin bottles with fairy lights that she made, blackboard signs from my friend Anna and sister Katie, flip flops for the dancefloor and blankets for outside.

We wanted sparklers too and had a photobooth but I forgot to charge the Polaroid camera! The props were hilarious on the dancefloor and the kids loved them.

We love your outfits! Tell us more…

I wore a white crepe dress with off the shoulder detachable bands (for maximal dancing), lace at the top with some detail through the bottom. I only tried on three or four before picking this dress.

My shoes were Jimmy Choos, found online by my fashionista friend, Lauren. I absolutely loved them and although they were high, felt comfortable in them all day. Although i did have to remove them for the ceilidh dancing!

My mum kindly let me borrow her earrings and necklace, and Moray had bought me a bracelet which he gave me as a present on the day. Myself and the bridesmaids got leather jackets handpainted by the amazing Kate Illustrate – they looked so good against the green dresses.

Lesley of Pamper & Polish was absolutely incredible! I loved my hair and make up, as did my mum and my three bridesmaids! What an effort to get everyone ready that morning and for everyone to be looking fabulous! Could not recommend enough!

Moray wore a Strathspey District tartan kilt with a tweed blue jacket and waistcoat. He looked through lots of different tartans before picking this one.

Your photos are incredible!

Jen Owens, our photographer was amazing – so talented and she captured our unforgettable day beautifully. Her photos look really natural and she captures so many great moments. We love all our photos and I’m in awe about how she got so many! She was so fun to have around on the day and made the photos very fun and laid back.

What was your first dance song?

‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ by Franki Valii.

We wanted a slow start and then high paced at the end to get everyone on the dance floor and the party started. It worked very well. The band were incredible and all our friends kept commenting on how great they were. The dance floor was packed the whole night. Flung About were such a highlight!

Near the end of the night the band were playing ‘Timber’ by Pitbull and I looked around the dancefloor and all our friends and family were absolutely loving it/going wild and it was hilarious.

Any advice?

Don’t sweat the small stuff!!

Honeymoon or minimoon?

Minimoon! We went to Knoydart peninsula, off the West Coast of Scotland, and did some hillwalking and relaxing in a hot tub with amazing views and sunsets on the loch.

What’s the one moment you’ll always remember?

We had the best day, smiling from ear to ear from start to finish. The most important thing to us was we got to celebrate with all our family and friends, and just have a massive party!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful day with us Mandy and Moray! How amazing does a massive party with family and friends sound right now?! Sending a huge virtual hug to those of you who are having to wait until it’s safe to celebrate with the ones you love. x
