To the mountains and back – Isle of Skye wedding

FEATURING

Bride and groom look out over Loch Coruisk at their Isle of Skye wedding

Ready for a little escapism? We thought so! Today we’re taking you armchair travelling, to a wild and windswept place that sends our souls soaring. Inspired by their love of the Scottish outdoors and mountains, Rhona and Craig were married by the shores of Loch Coruisk on the Isle of Skye. Packed with love, laughter and joy, their day is exactly what we need in our lives right now.

Love at first sight or gradual attraction?

We met at a mutual friend’s party 11 years ago. I was instantly attracted to Rhona and after we got talking, we exchanged numbers and went out on a date the next day. It moved very quickly from there and we have been so happy together ever since!

What inspired your wedding plans?

We love the Scottish outdoors and mountains, so always wanted to get married near the mountains and lochs. That and the fact we wanted to eat at The Three Chimneys!

The venue was lochside at Loch Coruisk in the Isle of Skye. It is only accessible by boat or by a six mile walk. It is such a beautiful location and idyllically Scottish. It was perfect for us.

Your photos are incredible!

Lynne’s photos are amazing. She specialises in Highlands and Islands elopements, so was the ideal choice for us. She really knew the area well and this was invaluable on the day to get the shots in the short period we had the perfect weather. She also knew the boat company, which was so handy.

Our florist was again, another local to the area. They managed to work to our spec and get the seasonal wildflowers spot on.

We love your outfits! Tell us more…

Rhona wore the Isere skirt by Charlie Brear and a custom made top by Catriona Garforth.

I wore a kilt in my family tartan, the Wallace, and my own charcoal waistcoat and jacket with a tartan plaid. My kilt and jacket waistcoat were from Hector Russell in Glasgow. The plaid was from MacGregor and MacDuff. My brogues were by Grenson.

Did everything go to plan on the day?

The boat we had chartered didn’t start in the morning so we had to change plans and we went over to Loch Coruisk first with Lynne, our photographer, to do the photos before the ceremony when guests arrived on a later boat.

Any advice?

Do what you two want and not what anyone else expects you to do.

Honeymoon or minimoon?

Honeymoon to San Sebastian for a week of great food.

Love that these two had a clootie dumpling (a traditional steamed Scottish pudding) as their wedding cake! x
