Outdoor humanist wedding at Harvest Moon

FEATURING

After their original plans had to be put on hold (for a very happy reason!), Louise put Andy in charge of finding a family-friendly venue for their outdoor, Humanist wedding. With its beach setting and laidback vibe, Harvest Moon in East Lothian was the perfect spot for their weekend-long celebration.

How did you choose your venue?

We chose Scotland because we wanted to get married outside and a Humanist ceremony is so much more in line with our values than any other ceremony, and this felt important to us!

We knew the venue was perfect for us the second we found it! We had originally been due to get married in 2017, but had a sneaky second baby instead! So I left Andy the task of finding a wedding venue “that felt like us”, and he did an amazing job!

We love the outdoors, we love the beach… Harvest Moon has that in abundance! We loved that all our family and friends could come and celebrate with us for the full weekend, so we could get quality time with them all, away from the chaos of normal life! We didn’t look at any other venues once we’d found Harvest Moon, it was the one!

What inspired your wedding plans?

We had this idea the whole time that we wanted the wedding to “feel like us”! We chose things that we loved instead of what felt like tradition.

It was so nice almost being “off grid” for the whole weekend, just appreciating the company of the people that we love. I remember saying to my mum, “Everywhere I look, there’s someone else I love”.

We had all of Harvest Moon to ourselves for the whole weekend! We’ve got two young boys, so wanted it to be fine that there were kids running around crazy, that the kids were well fed and entertained!

For the flowers, I wanted something a bit wilder, not too neat and tidy or traditional. Our florist, Ruth was great – I messaged her a few times having a complete meltdown about colour schemes and she reassured me that the flowers could tie it all together beautifully, and they did!

My auntie Pat, the best baker we know made our cake!

We love the happy vibes in your photos!

We loved that Jen’s style wasn’t too traditional, we wanted lots of candid shots and a few group ones. We met Jen at Harvest Moon when we went to visit it a few months before the wedding and instantly loved her! She got soaked to the skin with us in the gloriously Scottish weather, and we loved that she lived locally and has a real love for Dunbar!

On the day it was like I’d known Jen for years! We love our photos, there’s the perfect balance – there was so much going on, on the day and the photos capture that! One of my favourite parts of the day was going down to the beach with Andy and Jen, and having some photos of just the two of us, with Bass Rock in the background.

What’s the one thing you’ll always remember about your wedding day?

There are too many! The service was so beautiful, most people there hadn’t been to a Humanist ceremony before and loved how personal it was to us! And our celebrant, Stewart is just the nicest man!

The kids paddling in the sea, in their wedding outfits whilst we said our vows!

Glitter Tits – Most people’s weddings don’t feature too many boobs… ours did!
