Pastel colours and beer bottles at WEST in Glasgow
FEATURING
Iconic Glasgow brewery, WEST was where Linsay and Craig had their first date, and it was the only venue they considered for their summer wedding. They embraced the brewery theme, with single flowers in brown beer bottles and pastel colours contrasting against the wooden kegs. Their ceremony included their favourite songs, sung by talented duo Ginny & The Tonic, and was a labour of love. After all that planning to make their day so personal, we bet they were more than ready for the incredible honeymoon that followed!
How did you two meet?
We met at a mutual friend’s wedding in March 2014. Craig’s friends gave my friends his number as he was too shy to give it to me personally. We starting texting and arranged a date about a week later. We properly dated each other and would meet in Glasgow around twice a week to go out and spend time together. We bought our house and moved in together after 18 months of dating.
Craig proposed to me at Glasgow Central Station on our third anniversary. He arranged with the duty manager to have a special message on the notice board. The story went viral and was on lots of different news websites online and we had lots of newspapers contacting us but we wanted to keep it private for us. It was amazing and Craig put so much thought into it. He also included our parents and Craig’s son, who were watching it happen at the champagne bar in the Grand Central Hotel.
What inspired your wedding plans?
Our venue, WEST was where we had our first date. It was the only place we considered getting married. It is such a stunning building and it holds great memories for us.
We went full throttle with the brewery theme. We combined pastel colours for the flower decor with the wooden beer kegs. We had lanterns and candles on the aisle for our ceremony. We had single flowers in small brown beer bottles on the tables at the reception.
Ruth is one of my best friends and has put the flowers together for all my friends weddings. She is extremely talented – the time and effort she put in was amazing.
The music at our ceremony was beautiful. Ginny & The Tonic were amazing and their voices are just stunning.
We love your dress! Tell us more…
My dress was an ivory coloured fit and flare dress. It had gorgeous sleeves that were sheer with lace at the top and at the wrist. The design was so intricate with flowers all over the body. On the skirt there were some gorgeous patterns that reminded me of a paisley pattern.
I tried on around 30 dresses and was nearly settling for something I wasn’t really sure on. I went to Melle Cloche to look at some accessories and decided I might as well try some dresses on. The dresses are of a really nice high quality and I was really pleased with the service. I fell in love with my dress as soon as I put it on. My mum and I knew it was the one straight away.
I wore my mum’s jewellery – pearl and diamond stud earrings, and a sapphire and diamond ring.
My shoes were from Dune and were a cream suede court shoe with diamanté pendant on the front.
And what about Craig’s outfit?
Craig and the groomsmen wore kilts. The design was called Cairngorm Blue and wasn’t your traditional style kilt. It was more modern and felt brighter for a summer wedding.
Your photos are beautiful!
John is my cousin’s husband and a fantastic photographer. I had seen his photos on Facebook and Instagram. I loved the candid nature of them. We absolutely love our photos! John captured so many amazing parts of the day and the photos at the gardens at the People’s Palace are stunning.
We knew early on we wanted to have a videographer and booked Gumshoe Films. It was important for us to have this to see parts of the day we wouldn’t have been able to see and watch it together.
What was your first dance song?
UB40 – (I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You. The dance floor was packed all night and everyone commented on how good our band, Aurora were.
Honeymoon or minimoon?
We had our mini moon at Seaham Hall in Durham. It was a beautiful spa hotel in stunning grounds. The hotel was very grand and we had a really relaxing time.
We had our honeymoon in the Maldives at the stunning OZEN by Atmosphere at Maadhoo Island. This is the best resort we have been to and we have been lucky enough to visit lots of luxurious places before. We were staying in a water villa with pool. A very romantic and relaxing stay.
We then stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE. Another gorgeous hotel and a lovely room upgrade to a suite, which was beautiful.
Any advice?
Plan ahead and make sure you speak to each other about what your vision is for each aspect of the day. Don’t get too stressed out as there are so many people on the day to sort out any of the small things.
Spend as much time together on your big day as you can. It is your day and you want to experience it together.
What’s the one thing you’ll never forget about your wedding day?
Our ceremony was so special and we had planned this meticulously with our celebrant. It included our son and friend, and it was so special to us. We had picked specific songs to be sung during our signing that were sung so beautifully by our duo, Ginny & The Tonic.
So many guests told us it was the most personal and special ceremony they had seen at a wedding. It made it worthwhile spending so much time perfecting each part of this. It is fantastic being able to watch this back on our wedding DVD.
Love the way these two chose their venue so decisively and ran with the theme when it came to styling their day. Thank you so much for sharing your wedding story with us Linsay and Craig! x
