How did you get into blogging?
With its sublime scenery, wonderful hospitality, incredible venues and super talented suppliers, we felt that Scotland really deserved its own, dedicated wedding blog. After several years in the Scottish wedding industry (as photographers) we gave up on trying to persuade others to start such a blog and finally decided to do it ourselves. We launched We Fell In Love almost 5 years ago and what an incredible journey it has been so far. We can’t wait for the next, very exciting, stage (more on this coming soon!)
What do you love most about Scottish weddings?
The love, the joy, the laughter… the dancing (Have you been to a ceilidh? The energy is incredible!). We love when a couple stamp their personality on the day and are true to themselves – that really shines through. Scotland is a very welcoming country (the nation collectively rejoiced when same sex marriage was made legal) and we love to feature love stories in all their forms – from big, bold and beautiful to wonderful wee weddings for two.
One of the best things about Scotland is that you can (legally) get married practically anywhere here – on a mountain, in a distillery, by a lighthouse, the list really is endless!
From handfastings (where the couple are literally bound together) to drinking whisky from the quaich (the Scottish cup of friendship), there are so many wonderful Scottish traditions that can be incorporated into the ceremony. At the time of writing, Scotland is one of just 10 countries in the world where Humanist ceremonies are legal, and couples are really able to personalise this part of the day. It’s beautiful to see!
You both run your own businesses and have young children – how do you cope with the work/life balance?
We’re lucky to work as part of a fantastic, supportive team – it’s more like a family really! – which really helps when we’re on deadline or launching an exciting (and sometimes terrifying!) new project.
We’re big fans of the outdoors – going trail running or for a hike in the hills is an amazing way to get our equilibrium back. We also love to travel, drink gin cocktails (Bees Knees anyone?) and both dream of one day publishing our own novels. We’ll keep you posted!
Any advice for brides and grooms?
Do it your way – whether that’s the fairytale castle wedding of your dreams or eloping to a remote and romantic island. All that really matters in the end is that you are marrying your best friend.
We Fell In Love is here to guide and inspire you along your wedding journey. We’d love you to get involved in sharing your wedding story on the blog – you can submit your big day to us here, and please do connect with us on Facebook and Instagram. We want to hear your love stories!
