Old Aberdeen engagement shoot

Today we’re travelling to Old Aberdeen for an engagement shoot amidst the elegant architecture, magnificent cloisters and cobbled streets of King’s College. After meeting through a mutual friend, Demi and Tobi just clicked and he proposed to her over a romantic dinner on holiday in Kenya. Something tells us their wedding day will be full of smiles…

How did you two meet?

We met through a mutual friend. My friend worked with Tobi and introduced us. From the moment Tobi and I met, we kinda just clicked.

Tell us a bit about the proposal – was it a surprise?

It was partially a surprise. I knew it was coming so I was on the lookout for a proposal but when it finally happened, I was completely surprised by how much effort he had put in!

We were on holiday in Kenya and having dinner with friends. The music in the restaurant changed to one of my favourite songs and the waitress brought my dessert out last and on the plate, written in chocolate was “Demi, will you marry me?”. I was speechless.

And how about your engagement shoot… why did you choose this location?

Tobi was doing his masters when I was doing my undergrad at University of Aberdeen but we never saw each other. We agreed the university would make a great engagement shoot location as we could visit it again but together this time and create a new happy memory of the university grounds.

Tell us more about your wedding day…

It’s on the 16th of June in Aberdeen. We are having a church wedding followed by an intimate reception for our family and close friends. We are hoping it stays sunny!

On the fence about whether to book an engagement session of your own? Here’s what Demi and Tobi’s photographers, Kristeen and Sarah at Joy Story think about them:

“Sarah and I just love doing engagement sessions as they give a great opportunity for us to get to know the couple and for the couple to get to know us. It is such a different feel to a wedding day. Engagement sessions are more relaxed, there are less time constraints and less pressure all around. Even the look of the photos is more relaxed with dressed down outfits, hair and make up. All of this really comes second to being able to capture and enjoy being around a couple in love. It really reminds you what is important in life – the ones we love.

“We absolutely cannot wait to capture these guys wedding in June, both Demi and Tobi are such smiling, happy people and so obviously in love, that I have no doubt that there wedding day will be glorious. Roll on June.”

Love all the smiles in these so much and the idea of creating new happy memories in a special place! x
