We’re big fans of the minimoon here at We Fell In Love. Whether you’re trying to let your bank balance recover after the big day, or just love the idea of celebrating with a cheeky wee staycation before heading off on honeymoon at a later date, these short breaks will whet your appetite for a little Scottish adventure.
If you love the idea of driving off into the sunset on your first road trip as newlyweds, then hiring a campervan, and exploring the Scottish Highlands could be for you. We love the spontaneity of being able to stop as and when you feel the urge and to set your own pace – taking the time to really connect with a favourite place before packing up and heading off on a new adventure.
A wild camping adventure to Loch Morlich, which lies at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountains, near Aviemore sounds pretty tempting to us. Just don’t forget to pack the midge spray (Smidge is our favourite)!
If you prefer to spend the night under canvas, then the campsite at Loch Chon in the Trossachs offers a wild camping experience, but with basic facilities on site. Firepits are available to hire and you could even do what we did at the weekend, and start the day with an invigorating dip in the loch. It’s also close to Ben A’an, which is a fairly small and yet very rewarding hill to climb. The views are immense!
If your idea of relaxation is a post-ride beverage after a day spent cycling through some of Scotland’s most rugged and spectacular scenery, then a Scottish island cycle trip could be right up your street. After enjoying the Isle of Skye’s challenging climbs and quiet roads, you could be dining with your other half at The Three Chimneys. Or tucking into a cup of langoustines at Portree harbour.
While we’ve always been more partial to the type of cycling that involves simultaneously balancing a baguette and bottle of wine in our basket, these photos are tempting us to hire a road bike and get in on the action.
For the foodies among you, a few days spent sampling some of the finest food Scotland has to offer has to rate pretty high on the weekend-away wish list. From tasting the single malt of chocolate (yes there is such a thing, and it will leave you mesmerised – we promise!), to making your very own bottle of gin (perfect for a hen weekend too!), to drinking the water of life at one of Scotland’s most scenic whisky distilleries, there is so much to offer on our doorstep.
You might spot a familiar face in this Visit Scotland advert…
Planning a minimoon or little Scottish adventure of your own? We’d love to hear all about it. Christina x
