In Sickness and In Health
Melodie + Chris
Our thoughts and massive get well wishes go out to Mel this week who has proved herself a total trooper throughout the whole wedding planning process. From pleurisy to driving tests this has not been the most fun of weeks for Mel… at least there was some vegemite.

“I’m sure anyone getting married ends up burning the candle at both ends a bit, its just a by product of getting organised, right? Anyway, I kept meaning to relax, I kept saying I’ll dedicate the next day off just for me to do nothing. So I finally booked myself in for a massage last Saturday and thought everything was under control.
Then Monday morning at work all of a sudden I just couldn’t catch a breath. As the week went on I got worse and ended up at the doctors who suggested I go to hospital – obviously my response was ‘eh, I don’t have time for that, please can I just have antibiotics?!’ So I have been forced into termporary relaxation due to having pleurisy – absolutely amazing!!
I have only been 30 for a few months but I didn’t think things would go downhill immediately! I’m freaking out slightly at the thought of needing a nap by the time I’ve made it to the end of the aisle! I hate being sick, I’m never off work and I am the WORST patient ever! At least my mum arrives in a day, so she can look after me!

So, massage was cancelled and chicken party postponed. However my time in bed has been rather productive. I have managed to get some of Chris’ tartan and have used it to make a few bows and hearts which I’ve sewn onto my blue suede wedding shoes!I’m quite happy how they’ve turned out but I’ll let you be the judge! I also made a wee purple garter and used a bit of Chris’s tartan in there too.
I have the wedding post bag to show you too – my talented friend Sarah helped me to print onto a hessian sack and I have sewn some lining into it. I was looking at lots of different ideas for wedding post and I thought this was such a cute and cheap alternative and it totally fits in with our rustic theme! Sarah helped me to print our table name cards too, full of funny Scottish and Aussie slang. Finally, the kids boxes are done! I’m so excited about these and think I would be delighted if I was given one so it should defo keep the kids occupied for a while at least! They’re little suitcases full of goodies like masks for them to decorate, things to colour in, different games they can share, sweeties a wee spy game and camera and lots more!

On Friday I managed to get out of bed for my driving test and I wish I had good news but I didn’t pass. I left my indicator on too long after exiting the expressway and someone thought I was changing lanes – GUTTED! I really wanted it done before the wedding. The next available test isn’t until January which is just rubbish, it’s too far away!
After feeling a bit glum I managed to pull it together and went off to meet my friend Hilda from Samoa who was coming with me for my second dress fitting. I was ravenous and hadn’t even mentioned the fact, but as soon as I met Hilda she ased if I was hungry and pulled a huge sarnie from her bag – typical Hilda style. She also had a MASSIVE jar of Vegemite in her bag for me – yay! We popped into
Rachel Scott Couture and did a big unveil and it was very exciting… It’s perfect! Rachel’s seamstress Lisa is going to sew in a wee pocket for me so I can keep a little something of Dad’s safe and secure and then it’ll be finished, so the next time I visit it will be to pick up my dress on our way to the hotel! Eek!
I was taking it as easy as possible and I was under strict orders and Hilda’s watchful eye not to overdo anything. So next we strolled over to see Janet from
Rene Walrus – oh em gee – my head piece was waiting for me in a beautiful pink box! I wasn’t expecting it to be ready and its so unbelievably stunning and sparkly. It has beautiful pearl, light pink colours and nudes through it with a lovely lace underlay. It looks so delicate and is so light to wear too.
Janet put another wee something together but you’ll need to wait for the big day to check that one out! If you like a bit of bling or something a little bit different, Janet is your gal. It’s so easy to get carried away in her studio looking at all of the amazing pieces she has put together and all by hand!
On our way back to Glasgow Hilda turned to me and said it was so nice how all of these people seem to genuinely care about you and what’s happening and that is so rare! So just to reiterate what I have been saying all along, not only are these suppliers pretty bloody brilliant, they are all such lovely genuine and caring people!
Before I put my feet up again now, you may notice that I am missing a paragraph – the one in which Chris was going to tell you about his stag?! He’s not getting away with it so I’ll try and pull it from him before the next blog.
According to my countdown there is only 9 days let – holy crap, how did that happen?!”
Not sure about anyone else, but I think Mel is amazing! Here’s hoping the next 9 days are as chilled and stress-free as possible… Alie x
