Melodie + Chris
With the final countdown now on until Mel & Chris’ big day (it’s happening on the 20th of this month!!!), there has been no shortage of items to tick off the to-do list. We’ll let Mel fill you in on all the details…

So last Saturday morning I tried on MY dress! Eeek, I was so excited! I walked into
Rachel Scott and it was hanging up at the end of the shop, sparkling under the lights like a dream! Oooh it’s so lovely…… the material is so luxurious and soft and it feels so nice on. Rachel’s fabulous assistant, Amber was on hand to help me into the frock while her equally marvellous seamstress extraordinaire, Lisa was there to pin me right into it! To be honest it almost fit me perfectly as it was, only a few wee tweaks here and there and it will be like a second skin! Lisa is going to help me sew a wee pocket into my dress, so I can keep a little something of my dad’s close and secure.
I took along my shoes and accessories too, so I could see just exactly how it would look on the day. I had picked up these lovely Elizabeth Bower oversized studs the last time I was in and I thought they tied in well with my ring so I used that as a base for all my accessories. I LOVE sparkle and I can get a bit carried away, so I wasn’t sure if using all the elements would be heading in the direction of a gypsy wedding – I’m happy to report no gypsy brides here! Each piece just added a wee something, yay!

Next Friday I’m going back to visit the talented Janet from
Rene Walrus to check out her creations, but before that I have the second fitting booked in and my driving test – hopefully I’ll be buzzing with happiness after passing first time (fingers crossed)! It was eventually time to get out of my oh so glamerous frock and accessories as Chris and I were going to head up to Arthur’s Seat! Things have been pretty crazy recently with work, driving lessons and wedding plans so we wanted to make sure we booked in time with each other as we were both off for the weekend. It worked out perfectly as it was the RWC semi-final weekend! Even more exciting, it is the Kiwis V the Aussies in the RWC FINAL – there’s going to be rather competitive atmosphere watching it with a mixture of Aussies and Kiwis – no pressure there then!

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned but we’re having a civil ceremony. We’re not very religious and we just kinda want something straight to the point – but not so much so it’s here comes the bride, kiss the bride, you’re married, enjoy! We wanted it to be more meaningful. So, we have asked two people to do a short reading for us, my friend Jenny from Australia has chosen a poem by Wilfred A. Peterson – The Art of Marriage – and Jac has chosen something by Rabbie Burns – A Red, Red Rose. We’re both really looking forward to hearing these and it’s nice to be able to include more people in our day.
Chris is currently in Hamburg on his quiet stag/Halloween party/RWC final weekend (aye right!!), so this weekend is for getting crafty! I have a garter to make – I didn’t like the idea of wearing one at first but I got the distinct impression it was something Chris was interested in so I have caved! I’m thinking purple ribbon to match his tartan and maybe try to work in a bit of his tartan too. I also need to get his tartan worked into my shoes! I am wearing little blue suede lace up ankle boots. I will be so comfy all day and my feet will be toasty warm! I just hate the idea of wearing a gorgeous pair of shoes and thinking about the first opportunity to kick them off!
In other crafty news, I’m going to put the final touches on to the kids’ boxes. I’ve been DESPERATE to put these together for weeks! I’ve been collecting boxes from work recently so we can start to pack things up ready to take to Hopetoun House so maybe we’ll soon have some space in our flat again!!
Next week we will be able to report on the kids’ boxes, dress fitting, driving test, head pieces AND if Chris has begun to function normally after his stag – I’ll get him to fill you in on his frolics! Oh, and it’s my chicken party!!!!

Wow – final wedding preps and a driving test to squeeze in! We’re all sending lots of good luck your way Mel. Christina x
