Sometimes something magical happens when creatives get together. This team, inspired by beautiful bride Fran and the gorgeous dresses of Freja Designer Dressmaking, worked to develop a beautiful set of images. It was the kind of day that noone wanted to end…
Tell us a bit about the vision for the shoot – where did the inspiration come from?
This amazing photo shoot came about when I was first approached by Mette of Freja Designer Dressmaking regarding a bride of hers. The bride in question, Fran Previdi, had been looking for a make-up artist who would do bridal make-up for her skin tone. When I spoke with the lovely Fran, she was not only happy for me to do her bridal make-up but was more than happy and very excited to be involved in a bridal photo shoot – I was delighted!
How did you go about creating that vision?
Following this initial chat with Fran, I was in contact with two photographers who were very keen to be involved – Vikki McCraw Photography and Rachel Hein Photography. Petals by the Shore kindly offered to donate a beautiful bridal bouquet that would match the dresses. The award winning bridal store Freja Designer Dressmaking, based in Edinburgh’s New Town, kindly lent us two of their amazing bridal dresses from their new collection with matching lace jackets and headdresses. We then chose the beautiful wedding venue, Malmaison Hotel, due to it stunning hotel interiors and equally stunning location, being right on the Water of Leith along the Shore.
Tell us about the day itself – how did it all come together?
I (Colette Casher Make-Up Artistry) started early in the morning on the make-up for the first look and dress at Malmaison Hotel. We managed to fit in two different looks with the two dresses, finishing the photo shoot late afternoon. We managed to get images from two very different photographic perspectives, which was a real treat as you don’t often get this luxury on photo shoots! With Rachel’s images having more of a natural and informal feel to them, using natural lighting, whilst Vikki was able to give us images that had more of an editorial feel, using photographic lighting. It was such an exciting and fun shoot with an amazing team of people, and I think the images really reflect this! One of the team even commented ‘I didn’t want the day to end!’ which captured the buzz amongst the team on the day.
Can you tell us a bit about the dresses?
The first set of pictures is of Fran in a silk douppion dress with full silk organza circle skirt overlay, internal corset, and buttons and loops. With that she wears a guipore lace jacket, with a boat neck fron and a deep V-neck back and big silk douppion bow.
The second lot of photographs are of Fran in french a silk chiffon dress, with ruching on the bodice, internal corset, and little buttons and loops at the back. On top she wears a very fine silk chantilly lace jacket, also with buttons and loops at the back.
I love the idea of getting dressed up (in one of Mette’s dresses) and getting to be pampered in a boutique hotel. Anyone else up for joining me? Alie x
