St Andrews-Scotland
We just loved this story of Edinburgh boy meets New Jersey girl. As with so many good stories, it started with alcohol (we’ll let Caitlin fill you in on the details). And we were thrilled to hear that We Fell In Love helped Caitlin and Ross plan their Scottish wedding from the United States. From the shabby chic inspired styling to the super pretty flowers and sublime Stella York dress, something tells us you’re going to love their summer country house wedding.
WE’D LOVE TO HEAR THE STORY OF HOW YOU FIRST MET. WAS IT LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
Ross, originally from Edinburgh, moved to New Jersey from Scotland just three years prior to our meeting. With a smile as big as his heart, Ross approached me at a local NJ pub and asked to buy me a drink. I knew Ross from work and simply took it as a casual post work libation. No less than a month later, Ross and I crossed paths again at a trade show in San Jose, CA where we were paired up as partners to play a drinking game against our co-workers. We lost the game, but won each other over.
AND TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR ENGAGEMENT…
Ross moved into my house, which meant that he moved in with not just me but my two dogs, Sammy and Wally. It took some time for him to adjust to the dog chaos, but he took it in full stride. He knew home was where my heart was and that is where he proposed. With pasta sauce in my hand and a pot of boiling water ready for pasta, I turned around to Ross kneeling on the floor in our kitchen with a gorgeous ring in his hands. We had champagne for dinner that night!
OUR WEDDING DAY WAS INSPIRED BY…
I combined my love for shabby chic’s classic and traditional style with my want to look and feel like a princess. Our venue’s natural beauty and our great florist perfected my vision. We chose Scotland because Ross is from Edinburgh and went to the University of St Andrews. With a bigger family than mine, it was important to me that they were all there.
HOW DID YOU PLAN YOUR WEDDING FROM OVERSEAS?
Planning a remote wedding was so difficult, but luckily Google lead me to We Fell In Love. WFIL’s site helped me find the greatest suppliers. More often than not the contacts on WFIL were booked, but every individual that I reached out to had at least five professional references that they recommended. I found EyeCandy Pro Team Make Up Specialists through WFIL, which we were lucky enough to book for my mom, my three lovely bridesmaids, and myself.
TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY THAT MIGHT SURPRISE US…
It was sunny!
WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE IF YOU COULD DO IT ALL AGAIN?
I absolutely loved my shoes, but ouch did they hurt! One of my bridesmaids suggested that I wear wedges since I would be walking in a garden and heels tend to dig into the dirt. Let’s just say when I stood at the altar I had to keep all of my weight towards the soles of my feet to prevent the quicksand effect of the wet dirt sucking my heels in! So, yes, in the future, I will wear wedges for garden weddings, got it!
YOUR FIRST DANCE SONG WAS…
We chose “Something” by the Beatles. It’s a beautiful song that always had us dancing in the kitchen at home.
ANY ADVICE?
Everyone knows that the big day is such a whirlwind and it goes by so fast, but it is so important to take time to yourselves. Ross and I took 10 minute breaks every couple of hours just to walk around the venue, take it all in, and really enjoy the moment.
HONEYMOON OR MINI-MOON?
Honeymoon! We went to the Excellence all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. If you are looking for an awesome and adult-only vacation in the Caribbean, this is the place to go.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU’LL NEVER FORGET ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY?
Laughing with my new sister-in-law about my garter that fell onto the floor!
I love the sound of these romantic 10 minute breaks. And the tip to wear wedges for garden weddings. Great advice! Christina x
