From street to snow

Women’s winter boots

Snow is falling, pavements are getting slippier and our blue toes are crying out for some love. But finding the perfect pair of winter boots isn’t an easy task – do we substitute style for practicality or endure a few months of sliding along the streets? We’ve brought together a selection of boots for the job – from the sublime to the slightly ridiculous. The choice is yours.

You can’t go wrong with a bit of Scandi-style or Nordic-influence. These people know how to look seriously good when it gets cold. Whether you add the Sarah Lund-inspired jumper is up to you. Main image, sweater back tan snow boots from Edinburgh-based La Beau Boutique. Top right, Helly Hansen Iskoras Boots from John Lewis. Bottom right, Ilse Jacobsen cosy winter boots, available at Zalando.

Sticking with the international theme, Italian brand Olang has a huge range of boots designed for snowy conditions. We love the knitted cuff on these Cannes Tex boots (main image). And of course, you can rely on the Canadians to know what they’re doing when it comes to winter wear. Sorel boots became the world’s best-selling cold weather boot after being introduced in the 1960s. Our favourite pair is the Joan of Arc faux fur cuff boot (top right), available at ASOS. And we love the chunky style of these black winter boots (bottom right) by German brand Tamaris.

Can’t bring yourself to give up the heels this winter? These suede and shearling wedge heel boots by Jill Sander (left) could be the answer. And these knee high DKNY wedge boots (centre) will look gorgeous with a sweater dress and oversize coat. Or go all out with these Alexander McQueen shearling and leather ankle boots. Just take a taxi while you do it. All available at Net-a-Porter.

If you can’t live without your trusty Uggs, then these Maddi Mid Boots (top left), available at Office, will get you through ’til spring. And pavement pounding in the December shopping rush will feel more secure in these Sorel Chipakho Felt Boots (top right), available at Schuh.
Whether a trip to the Alps is on the cards or not, you can embrace your inner snow bunny with these Juicy Couture snowflake design boots (bottom right), available at ASOS. Or for board-inspired snow style, keep cosy in these DC Lodge Boots (bottom left) , available at Schuh. Having tested them in a Canadian snowstorm, we can vouch for their warmth! Adding an all in one snowsuit is optional and may lead to other crimes against fashion…
