The invites are out, the gift list has opened and a DIY flurry is abut to begin. With just under 8 weeks to go until she ties the knot at Colstoun, Sarah is getting more than little excited. Especially with her hen weekend just around the corner (which she knows absolutely nothing about!). Over to Sarah…
“So we’ve passed the two month to go mark, I can’t believe in less than 8 weeks I’ll be Mrs MacLachlan!
“I’ve just spent a lovely weekend with my maid of honour and her parents in Leeds, her parents can’t make my wedding so we had a tasty afternoon tea to kick off the countdown to my nuptials as in four weeks time it will be my hen party. They helped with the tedious task of cutting out confetti cones and the place name tags (thanks ladies!). It also meant that I could finally see one of my squad in their bridesmaid dress – Biddy will be 7 months pregnant at the wedding so luckily the dresses also came in a maternity version, she looks amazing in it and the Bebe seems happy too! I got them from Asos, and they are really good quality, I recommend brides check the site out as they have hundreds of options. Duncan meanwhile has spent the weekend hunting for a new sporran and jacket, he’s got both already but fancied something new for the day, who knew there were so many sporran options!
“It’s been a busy January ticking off jobs, Duncan dropped our M10 forms off at the registry office in Haddington, so it is now official! We had another visit to Colstoun to run a few things over with Lyn the wedding co-ordinator and we’ve FINALLY sent invites out. We were so pleased with what Anna at Origami Fox put together for us, and they seem to have gone down really well with our guests, my parents were one of the first to receive theirs and Mum announced it was ‘different’ but it’s me so she didn’t expect a standard formal invitation!
Our gift list has also opened which is a strange experience, we’ve gone with Prezola as we’ve also asked for donations towards our honeymoon – when you live together it’s hard to know what to ask for. However choosing things off the list was like an adult version of going through the Argos catalogue when you were a kid, except we’re actually going to get the gifts!
“We’ve tried to also make time for each other this month when we’ve not mentioned the wedding – it’s harder than you think! We celebrated not only 5 years together but also a year since we got engaged so headed out for a lovely dinner and cocktails in Edinburgh. We’ve also put aside a night or two a week to catch up on some tv series (Black Mirror and McMafia anyone!!) or just relax and have a night off. It’s important to remember that you have a life outside of wedding planning – and with the next 8 weeks looking pretty busy we’ve enjoyed having some down time.
“February I think will pass in a flurry of appointments and DIY, we’re still ploughing through the details for dressing the venue and I’m really pleased with how everything is turning out. I’ve got hair and makeup trials, dress fittings and also our Stag and Hen the last weekend of the month. I know absolutely nothing about mine apart from the date, I have total faith in my squad that it will be amazing and am so excited! I do know more about Duncan’s than my own though, he’s heading off to Arran with the lads, he better bring me back either some whisky or cheese! We are both too excited for our menu tasting this week and can’t wait to try our food and talk over the table layouts etc. with Kelly from Bespoke Catering in Stirling, I’ll let you all know how it goes next month!”
Can’t wait to hear how the hen weekend goes! Anyone else got theirs coming up? Christina x
Sarah and Duncan are getting married at Colstoun House near Haddington in March, and Sarah is dreaming of an outdoor ceremony – either on the lawn or in the purpose-built polytunnel in the walled garden. Their day will be rustic with hints of blush, green and rose gold.
