Inspired by the seaside, May Wan and Danny planned a day full of personal, DIY touches. And where better to hold their dream wedding than the very place where Danny proposed. So. Very. Beautiful!
Love at first sight?
Me and Danny met online then after a few dates realised we’ve actually crossed paths at my cousin’s birthday dinner party. My cousin thought we were a good match and wanted to introduce us to each other.
Fate brought us together as we found each other ourselves. Danny proposed in the garden at Waterside Hotel, with the beach as the backdrop. It was perfect and as we were leaving, there was a sign saying new wedding venue opening here. We knew then this was our venue.
We were inspired by…
The seaside, it was simple and elegant. We decorated the place with flowers and seashells and did lots of DIY including the wedding invitations, table decorations, table flowers, candy bar , kids’ Nemo theme packs, kites for the beach and bridesmaid packs.
Our amazing, talented florist Betty Bluebell was so professional from the start to the end, and gave me lots of ideas and inspiration… She was super organised and I didn’t need to worry about anything. She was so helpful when it came to color coordinating.
My husband’s nephew, Daniel played the violin as I was walking down the aisle.
Tell us about your venue…
It has spectacular panoramic views from the water’s edge and breathtaking views across the water to the beautiful Isle of Arran.
The stunning Kyle Suite provided the most romantic backdrop on our special day, with floor-to-ceiling folding glass doors opening onto our private gardens, leading to the beach. The Waterside was truly a perfect setting for our perfect wedding.
Tell us about your photographers…
There’s no need for words as their work speaks for itself!!! We felt very lucky to have Chantal and Scott capturing our special day. The pictures are perfect. Even better than we could imagine.
The Gibsons are the most wonderful people that I’ve come across, they are so professional and kind. They make you feel like your friends are taking your pictures on your day, but the results of the pictures are enchanting and professional, as they make use of the soft light. They are truly unique – the way they make you feel and I can’t imagine how disappointed I’d have been if I didn’t have them on the day.
Your dress is gorgeous! Tell us more…
It was soft and romantic, but also glamourous with hand-placed lace, enchanting tulle, a delicate floral pattern and shimmering diamante crystals. The colour of the dress was amazing too – it was ivory blush pink.
And what about the groom?
Danny’s kilt was from MacGregor and MacDuff. The colours tied in well with the wedding colour themes and we thought it was important to have kilts on the day as me and my husband were born in Scotland.
Slow shuffle or big number?
Our first dance was a song by Boyce Avenue called One Life. Alan, who was the DJ, was amazing in organising our songs. Some of them were Chinese songs and he still managed to get them for me. We were very happy with their service.
Tell us something surprising about your day…
I always thought I would be crying on my wedding day. In other words, an emotional bride. Instead, me and my husband just can’t stop smiling with all our guests. Our wedding was full with laughter and happiness. We achieved a relaxed and beautiful day for everyone.
Having some kind of entertainment when the bride and groom are away getting pictures taken is great for the guests. We had bubbles, kites and a photo booth. The photo booth was amazing, because our meal was running late and that keep everyone entertained.
We got married in Scotland because me and my husband were both born here. Our family are from Scotland too. Both our parents were born in Hong Kong, so we felt it was important to go back to Hong Kong to have our engagement pictures done. Therefore, both places are sentimental to us.
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
My husband forgetting his lines. Saying “I Yes” instead of “I do”.
Next week we’ll be sharing May Wan & Danny’s traditional Chinese wedding. Trust us, you do not want to miss it! Christina x
