Rainbow socks, giant balloons and bubble guns

If, like us, you loved following guest blogger, Susie’s wedding planning journey, then boy are you in for a treat today! Susie and Nonie are now cruising on a post-wedding high (stay in that wedding bubble as long as you can, we say!) after tying the knot in a weekend-long festival-esque celebration. Over to Susie…

“It’s already been over a week since Nonie and I got married and we are still very much living in a bubble, and right now we can’t imagine the bubble bursting. Our day was just perfect.

“I don’t have a big enough word count to fit everything in! The weather, the venue, the ceremony, the music, the speeches, the dancing, everything, totally perfect!

“Nonie and I stayed together along with our families and bridesmaids, Taylor, Lynette and Meeshy, at the lovely Rocks Hotel in nearby Dunbar. We got ready separately but joined up again before heading to Tyninghame as we knew that bit would be way too emotional to do in front of all of our guests! Mel Herriot from MHM styling spent the morning running between rooms, doing our hair and makeup and making us look like ladies!! I wasn’t quite prepared for seeing Nonie look as perfect. I knew she’d be beautiful, she is every day, but my god, she took my breath away! After we got those tears out the way we headed off to get married!

“We travelled to Tyninghame in separate VW Campers, hired from Scooby Campers. This would also be our accommodation for the weekend and was a gift from our amazing friends Meeshy and Jen. The weather couldn’t have been better, blue skies, sunshine and minimal wind.

“We had spent the day before on site, planning where everything would go, hanging dream catchers and birds and all sorts from the trees, setting up the marquee and putting up the bunting. But when we arrived on the day of the wedding we were totally blown away with how it looked. A group of friends had stayed late the night before and then arrived early that morning again to make it even more beautiful. Log slices with jars of gypsophila made an aisle for us to walk down to the beautiful arch that our friend Mogz had made. He had built wooden boxes from pallets for the arch to stand in and cemented the bottom of the arch so it stood up. Late on Friday night, in the dark, he weaved willow around it so that in the morning Penny and Elaine could add beautiful flowers and greenery. It was so beautiful.

“Our piper friend Hairy Mike had spent the last hour piping in our guests. Each guest had then been given a friendship bracelet made by our amazing friend Lisa, who had also come up from Brighton a day early to help us set everything up.

“We walked down the aisle to the sound of ‘Nuvole Bianche’, which our amazingly talented friend Thalia had learnt and perfected on piano to play for us! Nonie’s dad walked her down the aisle and I walked down with my son, Blair. Both of them in bright rainbow socks!! Nonie and I took each others hands and suddenly felt at ease, our nerves disappeared! We laughed and cried though the very personal humanist service which was led by Ken McMillan, who was fantastic! We had written our own personal vows which we kept light hearted and two of our friends, Lisa Y and Lisa P did readings for us. While we signed our marriage schedule, our friend Andy and his two gorgeous daughters, Orianne and Connie played and sang an acoustic version of Bob Marley’s ‘Is this love?’, which was beautiful. During the ceremony all the kids played with their bubble guns and the giant balloons that the flower girls were holding were bashing off peoples faces, it was very entertaining!

“A quick toast followed before Nonie and I headed to the beach with our photographer, Nick Silverstein and videographer, Josh from Ninja Star Films. Everyone just mingled, drank, laughed and filled their bellies with either a fish supper from ‘Mackays of Eyemouth on the Road’ or a pizza from the ‘Big Blu Pizza’ food trucks. Everyone commented on how delicious it all was!! Booze was supplied by ‘All the Best – Outdoor Bars’. We then moved inside for the speeches. They were moving and hilarious. Not following the normal formalities, Nonie’s dad started them off and set the mood with his funny stories, followed by my mum and both of my kids. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the place after Blair and Taylor spoke. Nonie and I ended it with a joint effort which involved zero preparation and therefore a few faux pas, but it seemed to go down well!

“Before we knew it our evening guests were starting to arrive! Our first dance was to ‘Higher and Higher’ by Jackie Wilson and was fairly energetic. Our friend, Dave played the tunes until our brilliant live band ‘Bombskare’ kicked off and had the whole marquee jumping! (There was, of course, a bridal stage dive!) Our friend Gayle then played crackin’ tunes until we had to end the music and head outside to the bonfire (which continued for the next 36 hours!!).

“I’m breaking the rules and going over the word count to say this – to everyone who played a part in our day THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. Kerrie Blake for our delicious cake, Nonie’s Aunty June at Kelso Whole Foods for the cheese wedding cake, Clare Elford for the brilliant cake toppers, Ali Wales for powering the entire site and making it look magical with all the lights (LEGEND), Cleo for running the woodland fancy dress photo area, Rebecca for the bunting. Then this lot – Penny for making all of the beautiful decorations and signs, Elaine and Jen for running about, making the whole day run totally smoothly, EVERYONE who helped set up and clear up, it was a huge job!

“Because of all of you, we had the best day of our lives. We absolutely adore you. xxxx”

Anyone else got a wee tear reading this? So much love. And what an incredible team effort! Huge congratulations to Susie & Nonie from us all. Christina x
