Yesterday was a big day – our guest blogging destination bride, Jillian became Mrs Bader! But before she said I do, there was the small matter of a trip to Skye for a pre-wedding shoot, a cruise down the Rhine, plus a bit of a dress dilemma. Over to Jillian…
“My last post! I can’t believe that a year has gone by this quickly. I also can’t believe that by the time you read this, my wedding will be over! It’s been a really wonderful journey getting to blog all of this, and I hope that you’ve enjoyed following along with me.
“It’s definitely been a busy couple of weeks, and now that we’re in the final countdown, it’s bound to get crazier. We just arrived in Edinburgh today (it’s Saturday as I write this), and hit the ground running! I had to immediately rush off to find a tailor to do some last minute alterations to my dress. Dress number 1 is still too small, and dress number 2 is too big. Of course. I hit a bit of a snag at the first place, but luckily found one that’s open on Sundays and assured me they could finish by Monday evening at 5:30. It’s cutting in a bit close if they don’t pull through, so I’m keeping all my fingers and toes crossed!
“All our guests are starting to arrive in the city as well, and that’s definitely a bit like herding cats! Most brides only have to organize their guests on the wedding day, but since this is a destination wedding, everyone is looking to me to organize events surrounding the day! I’m doing the best I can, but it can be hard to find a place that will accommodate 58 people without any notice. Matt definitely has his work cut out for him managing my stress these last couple of days.
“Other than the aforementioned craziness, everything else has been pretty calm! I feel confident that I’ve confirmed everything with the vendors, so inevitably I’ll have forgotten something. I’m just hoping it’s something small.
“We’ve had a lovely relaxing few weeks leading up to the madness though, so that’s certainly helped! We had an amazing time in Edinburgh in August, and we were so happy we were able to confirm certain things in person. We’re thrilled with our meal choices, and seeing Borthwick in person again set our hearts a flutter. It’s truly a stunning place.
“Our photoshoot with The Curries was cold, wet, and amazing. Chris and Gill are so easy to chat with, and it made a semi-awkward situation so much more fun. I bought a lovely red dress for the photoshoot, but the day ended up being too cold and rainy for me to wear it. I was a bit sad that we didn’t get any photos, so Chris and Gillian suggested that we try again the next morning as we made our way out of Skye. We were game, and so we got all dressed up the next morning, and were greeted with even more rain. Matt and I were determined though, so we sucked it up and stood in the freezing rain. I must say, it was worth it! Some of those pictures turned out amazing. Although I also think we got a wee bit sick because of it.
“We spent the last two weeks with my parents and my maid-of-honor and her boyfriend on a Rhine river cruise. We were the youngest people on the boat by far, but we had a such a lovely time! The scenery was amazing, and it was quite nice to get pampered right before all this stress.
“The next time you see something from me it’ll be our wedding recap, so hopefully you’ll hear about how it all went beautifully and my dress fit like a glove. And most importantly, I’ll be Mrs. Bader!”
Jillian and Matt are based in Orange County, California and chose Borthwick Castle, near Edinburgh, for their destination wedding. Jillian loves Scotland because “you can have a beautiful, romantic wedding, but it’s also a little badass!”
