We are so in love with Nikki & Johnnie’s Dunblane wedding! Packed with DIY details (kudos to the groom for getting very involved with these!), heaps of personal touches and a whole lot of style, it was one seriously beautiful day. The perfect way to add some cheer to your Monday, we think you’ll agree…
Love at first sight?
We met on induction when we both joined the same oil & gas company graduate scheme. Johnnie took me on a surprise holiday for my 30th birthday and hid my beautiful ring under a box of Jo Malone perfume that he gave me on my birthday in Crete.
We were inspired by…
Keeping things relaxed and personal, we made a lot ourselves, my favorite being our 4ft wedding letters that Johnnie made in our garden!
My father worked in the print industry and designed our stationery specially. He used a pattern from a book that my great grandfather had won in school.
Our florist, Natasha (Tupelo Tree) made me a flower crown with a twist – instead of flowers I had gold sprayed fern. She had just the “wild”,”rugged” look I LOVE. She was an absolute pleasure, we met at a cafe in Edinburgh and I took my wedding mood board with me and she just got us instantly and came up with some great options for us to choose from. Our flowers are one of my favorite things about the day!
Tell us about your venue
One of our first christmases as a couple, we went to the midnight service at the Cathedral and I was absolutely blow away. It is HUGE and really took my breath away, I thought this would be the venue if we ever got married. Victoria hall is a stone’s throw away from the cathedral and was where Johnnie played football as a child with the Boys’ Brigade. I liked the family connection, it made it feel more personal. The hall itself is a great space, I loved the decorated ceilings and thought we could really make it look unique.
How did you choose your photographer?
My sister actually worked with Martyna before she met David (Wonderful & Strange) and when setting up as a professional was just a dream. She put us in touch with them and when I saw their work I was so impressed. It was exactly our style, relaxed, candid, artistic shorts. Traditional and formal really wasn’t what we were looking for. They made us feel so at ease, we really hardly noticed them at all and we are so delighted with the shots. It’s going to be so tough deciding on what to put in our album.
We are in love with your dress! Tell us more…
I have known about Mette (Freja Designer Dressmaking) for a long time, through various friends who have had their wedding dresses made by her, so after one failed attempt at trying on dresses I went straight for a consultation. I had a dress I had worn to a ball that I liked the shape of and Mette took that and gave it her own spin. I wanted something a bit more formal for the Cathedral, so Mette made a gorgeous bolero that was just perfect. She was a pleasure to work with.
And what about the groom?
Johnnie had a modern family tartan while his best man (brother) had the traditional family tartan. The two other groomsman had kilts to match the modern one. Johnnie was in green tweed while his groomsmen all had the charcoal tweed as a contrast.
Slow shuffle or big number?
For our first dance, Johnnie and I took lessons as we are both as rhythmically challenged as each other. We went for something quite simple, so we could avoid the awkward shuffle and were really happy with our “performance” on the day. At least we didn’t face plant!
The band were awesome, they were a bit of a wild card, being fairly new to the wedding scene. We hired them through Warble Entertainment. They FAR exceeded all expectations and had the dance floor packed all night, I’ve had a friend of a friend book them after how much our guests raved about them .
Tell us something surprising about your day…
I dont think I actually made it through my vows, I went to pieces and cried and nodded to the minister!! Hope that still counts and we are legit married!
Get a good night’s sleep before the wedding! I hadn’t slept for four nights before ours!
Write a plan with the running order, supplier contacts and HAND IT OVER to someone you trust. Our master of ceremony was fantastic and really took control and left us to just enjoy our wonderful day.
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
That so many of our friends and family had traveled across the globe to come together and celebrate with us. That was really overwhelming. Everyone genuinely seemed to have a blast and that was exactly what we wanted.
I am crushing hard on Nikki’s gold fern crown – such an inspired idea! And that dress! So much to love. Christina x
