We Fell In Love With The Gibsons
If you love photography that is natural, soft and romantic with a fine art edge, then The Gibsons are sure to have caught your eye. Today we’re catching up with Chantal, who – after turning her lifelong obsession with photography into a business – now travels all over Scotland (and the world!) chasing beautiful light and capturing incredible moments with her husband, Scott. And while Glasgow is home these days, getting to return to the Manitoban prairies of Canada to shoot weddings is an added bonus.
How did you get into photography?
I have had cameras for as long as I can remember. My favourite thing was to take photos and get them developed. Sometimes I would wait until I had 10 rolls of film, as the excitement of being surprised was just as much fun as taking them. I also made a photo mural with my bedroom walls as my parents said it was up to me to decorate as I wished.
Scott was always the friend with the camera. It wasn’t until later on in life we both turned it into a business… at 30 years old in fact! A bit late in the game but it has been incredible and so worth it!
And what do you love most about it?
We love the adventure of it all. Every couple or baby or family we photograph is different, which inspires us in a new way each and every time. This job never gets old!
What’s been the highlight so far?
Shooting two weddings in my home city of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada last summer! We have shot weddings all over Scotland, Italy, Cyprus and Mexico but there was something extra special about taking photos in the city I grew up in and on the Manitoban prairies. We love shooting destination weddings and hope to do many more!
What’s your favourite thing about shooting weddings here in Scotland?
The choice of so many beautiful and unique venues, with such incredible backdrops or options for photos. If the venue lacks in spots for photos you only have to take a five minute drive to find a fabulous spot. Also, believe it or not but the light is constant and is very soft, which we love.
What/who inspires you?
Beautiful warm light inspires us every time but that is a given as photographers. Also I love tall grass and trees, so I zone in on these haha! I would say it’s not a photographer in particular who has inspired me but more so my grandpa for showing me how humble and happy he was as a business owner, no matter how hard times got. I try to always keep him in mind and it keeps me grounded.
If you weren’t creating beautiful photos, you’d be?
A midwife. I find birth fascinating! I even got to photograph a birth last year which was probably one of the most amazing moments I have ever witnessed (and photographed). It was on my bucket list and I was so happy to tick it off! Hoping to capture more.
On a rare day off we’ll find you where?
Doing lunch with friends with our wee family or just curling up on the couch with the family and a good movie.
Falling in love? We hear ya! And we know that Chantal & Scott would love to hear all about your wedding plans. Head over to their website to connect with them or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are incredibly proud to have The Gibsons as part of #TeamWFIL. Not only are their photos off-the-scale beautiful, their couples rave about their top customer service and friendly personalities. Something tells us you will too. Christina x
