2017 Beauty Trend Predictions

Eyecandy Makeup, Craig & Eva Sanders

Today we’re joined by our beauty blogger, Lynne who is sharing her thoughts on this year’s key makeup trends, plus some top tips on how to achieve the looks. From strobing to soft, relaxed red lips, it sounds as if we’re in for a fresh and subtle year. Over to Lynne…

Strobing set to soar
“I love the start to the New Year and January is always brightened up for me by all the new beauty trend predictions for the year ahead – I also like to see if my predictions are in amongst it all too, of course!!!
So many new trends are set and one of the best ones, in my opinion, that is set to soar is out with ‘Contouring’ and in with ‘Strobing’! Strobing initially made an appearance a good year or so ago, but it’s really going to come into its own in 2017.
So, forget the heavy contoured Kardashian obsession (which most of us make-up artists really don’t like anyway!) and bring in lovely dewy, highlighted complexions! So no more changing and covering up what you don’t like – or what you’re made to feel via Instagram and You Tube that you shouldn’t like! It’s now about taking what you do like and giving it the spotlight!
Here are some top tips for creating the ‘Strobing’ look & not ending up just looking sweaty!
• First, use a good rich moisturiser for your skin type (for oily skins ensure it’s oil free) to ‘plump’ the skin & create a good base.
• Use a light foundation such as a BB Cream to give some coverage, but still keep it light and dewy.
• When choosing your highlighter, go for something that suits your skin tone, steer away from anything too white and frost-like to avoid that 80s feel! Fair skins should look for a lightly warm champagne tone, medium skin tones a pink champagne colour, tanned/olive skin tones go for a golden tone and dark skin tones more copper tones.
• The most important part to this look is apply your highlighter to the areas that naturally catch the light, such as your brow bone, top of the cheekbones, along the bridge of your nose, your cupid’s bow (top of your lips) and into the inner corner of your eyes. These key areas will really bounce the light in just the right way! Of course don’t spread the product across your face or it really will be way over shiny (in fact just greasy!) and try to avoid areas like the forehead & chin too.
Stick to those key points & you can’t go wrong, it’s nowhere near as complex and over done as the old (and finally ‘old’) contouring style!

Think pink
A rather complementary trend to the above, which is also predicted to be ‘the bridal trend’ for 2017 is pink eyeshadow and monochromatic eyeshadow, so basically matching the same pastel pink shade with your eyes to your lips. So you’re creating this lovely youthful glow that complements a soft dewy complexion.
Also, speaking of bridal these looks can photograph well, it’s only SPF that can cause an issue with photography, highlighter placed in all the right places can do no wrong!

Relaxed red lips
2017 is definitely a year of softer, more relaxed make-up styles and another trend to watch is the ‘Relaxed Red Lip’, basically soft matte red lips. A top tip is to use a little lip scrub before applying the lip colour as a matte red will cling to any dry skin! Also you can make your own lip scrub by mixing a teaspoon of brown sugar with the same again of honey.
The trick is to not have over defined lips, so apply it softly with a lip brush and avoid overdoing the lip liner! Finish it off by lightly patting on some translucent powder with your powder brush (only apply a tiny amount to the brush though and tap off the excess before applying). This not only sets it in place but softens the edges too, almost blurring it and giving it that ‘relaxed’ finish.
Match the look with clean skin, minimal eye make-up with just a wash of nude pink and white eyeliner (in the under eye waterline), finish it off with softly defined brows.

The untamed brow
This leads me on to the next big trend, which is OUT with the ‘Stencilled Brows’ (thank goodness!!!) & IN with the natural and slightly ‘Untamed Brow’!!
So all you need is a little clear brow gel, a brow brush & some brow powder. Just fill in a few little gaps with the powder & only define a little at either edge. Then brush the brows upwards, then along the way to give them that slightly ‘untamed’ look. Set with a little clear brow gel to keep some neatness to them that is still natural and relaxed.
Glitter Eyes
My personal favourite though is ‘Glitter Eyes‘! But again for 2017 this will be much more relaxed and less structured than what we’ve seen during previous seasons.
My best tip for a real on-trend take on this look is to loosely apply on the under eye area. Again keep the rest of your make-up really neutral so it’s just all about the eyes! But it’s the glitter that makes the statement so go easy on the eye shadow and liner too!
Use your shadow brush and dip it in a little glitter glue (glitter glue designed for eyes that is!) and then dip the brush into the glitter. Lightly dab under the eye area and with the glue already applied to the brush this should give the perfect effect, with only a little ‘fall out’ from the brush (which is right on trend too!). DON’T apply straight onto the under eye without using glitter glue or it will be more of a mess than ‘relaxed’ glamour!

So all in all it’s fresh, relaxed & subtle beauty for this year. With 2017 style is set to be timeless & classic! Simply beautiful!”
I love rocking a matte red lip and will definitely be trying out Lynne’s homemade lip balm suggestion. Which look do you love the most? Christina x

Oh my goodness, I am looking for a nude lipstick just like the Maybelline one above – does anyone know what it’s called?
