Purple hair, don’t care

2017-01-24_0006

This month our destination bride, Jillian is struggling to get to grips with the legalities of getting married abroad. And there’s also the question of whether to go back to brunette for her big day. Decisions, decisions…

“I can’t believe we’ve reached my wedding year! Even though it’s still about 7 months away, everything feels much more real than it did in 2016. Every time someone asks when the big day is, it gives me a bit of a thrill to say this September, rather than next year.
“I have definitely reached a lull in the planning process. We have booked our final supplier (the minister), which was actually the hardest one to find! It was very important for us to have a religious ceremony, and so we reached out to a couple of different churches in the area. We don’t attend those churches, so we ran into quite a few hurdles when requesting a minister. Either the wedding wasn’t happening in their parish so they couldn’t perform the ceremony, or I didn’t hear back from them at all. Luckily, Matt’s mom has a friend who is based in Edinburgh and she was able to put us in contact with a minister who is willing and able to perform our ceremony. I must say it was a huge relief!
“I’m still trying to take care of as many details as I can this far in advance. Matt and I have been working on our order of service, as well as researching readings and songs. I’ve ordered my wedding shoes, and so I’m waiting until those arrive before I take the dress in to be hemmed. It can be difficult to figure out the right timing for alterations – I need to do them far enough in advance that I won’t feel rushed, but I also want to make sure I’m the accurate size!

“I also keep going back and forth on hair color/style. In case you didn’t notice from my pictures, I recently decided to try out some crazy colors! It’s been pink for the last few months, and this month I switched to purple. I originally planned to dye my hair back to my natural color of brown for the wedding, but the temptation to keep it purple is real. I keep picturing the lovely contrast of the greens and greys of Scotland against my bright purple hair, and I turn into the heart eyes emoji. What do you think, hive mind? Will I regret having purple hair in my wedding photos 30 years down the line? Any opinions or personal anecdotes are welcome! Maybe I’ll do a hair trial this next month to test it out. For now I’ll include a selfie and some hair inspiration photos. More to come next month!
“Most of my research is currently going toward figuring out all the legal aspects of getting married overseas. My day of coordinator, Kimmie of LITU Weddings, has been a huge help and has given me some detailed information on what I will need to obtain my visa for the wedding. The main issue I’m having a bit of trouble with is figuring out what I need to do to make sure that the wedding is legal in California as well. Interpreting the legalese from various government websites is proving tricky, so Matt and I joke that we can always stop by the courthouse when we return just in case.

“I’ve started 2 new jobs over the last month,so I’ve gone from rarely working to having a shift 7 days a week. Thank goodness I’ve been planning everything in advance, since my free time is becoming harder and harder to come by. I’m also performing in the musical Little Shop of Horrors for the next 8 weeks, so that means every weekend is accounted for! Luckily I love being busy – it makes the time pass faster! I’ll be a Mrs before I know it. Until next month!”
Anyone else having a hair dilemma? What do you think Jillian should do? Christina x
