Today’s festive #TBT takes us back to when the wonderfully named Mr and Mrs Yule tied the knot. A proposal on a blustery day atop Edinburgh’s Calton Hill, followed by a winter wedding in the heart of the city makes for the perfect love story.

Love at first sight, or gradual attraction?
We first met at Freshers’ Week at university in late summer 1996 – with the wedding not being until December 2011, I think you have to class that as gradual attraction!
How was the question popped?
We were both back in Scotland (on holiday from the UAE, where we both live) in August 2010. Andrew booked a night for us at the Glasshouse Hotel. After we checked in we went for a walk up a blustery Carlton Hill. Andrew forced/persuaded me to climb the folly at the top – and that is when he went down on one knee and proposed.
Any unexpected moments?
Andrew managed to leave the wedding licence in the pub before the ceremony – either that or he invented the scenario as an excuse to nip back over there to get a final drink as a free man.
Best compliment on your wedding?
We were really pleased that many folk commented that the ceremony, which we wrote ourselves and during which many friends and family gave readings, was very personal.
Heritage Portfolio commented that it was the most social wedding that they had ever catered for with lots of people mingling and getting on well (proving a bit difficult to get everyone back in their seats when the food was ready to be served!).
Close your eyes and think of your wedding day… now – describe it in three words…
Andrew: Real – emotional – happiness
Sarah: Happiest- heartfelt – amazing
Why Scotland?
Although we live abroad, it is definitely home to us.
The styling of Sarah and Andrew’s winter wedding is just gorgeous. Anyone else feeling inspired?Alie x
