Love at first sight, or gradual attraction?
Something in between. We met via mutual friends (bridesmaid and best man) in a night club in Aberdeen and the rest is history…
We were inspired by…
A mix of Scotland & the U.S.A that represented our time together. The winter season and Christmas sparkle.
HOW DID YOU PERSONALISE YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We selected a photo of every guest for their place setting and made the table plan from a map of the U.S. Our tables were named after U.S. cities we had visited together since we moved to Houston in 2009. I also made my brooch bouquet and our cake topper.
We were lucky enough to know a lot of talented people and loved having them as part of our wedding – our piper, organist, make-up artist and stationary designer (bridesmaid) were all friends and guests at the wedding.
What was on your wedding menu?
Spicy Parsnip Soup; Choice of Beef or Sea Bass; Sticky Toffee Pudding followed by the cheese from our cake, which we served with port in between the speeches and our first dance.

FIRST DANCE – CHOREOGRAPHED ROUTINE OR SEDATE SHUFFLE?
Choreographed. We took a couple of lessons in the U.S. prior to the wedding, which was actually a really fun experience. Unfortunately things didn’t exactly go to plan on the day but it is something we laugh about today (mainly Grant’s dancing). Our song was Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
What is you advice for future brides and grooms?
When people offer their help take them up on it. This was especially important to us given that we were planning our wedding remotely from the States, we relied heavily on friends and family to help us with the finishing touches in the days leading up to the big day. Also, remember to take a quiet moment together to soak up the atmosphere of the day – it really does pass very quickly.
Where did you spend your wedding night?
We stayed in the bridal suite at the castle. We picked the venue as we wanted somewhere where we could continue to party into the small hours with all our guests after the last dance.
WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU’LL NEVER FORGET ABOUT YOUR BIG DAY?
The overwhelming feeling of happiness!
Why Scotland?
Like our first dance it’s ‘Home’.

“When people offer their help take them up on it.” Honestly – I couldn’t agree more. Getting friends and family to help will add to the fun of your wedding planning for sure. Alie x
