1. Help Her Chill. We know weddings can be stressful, even for the most laid-back of couples. Your job as bridesmaid is to help your bride chill. Before the wedding we suggest making sure there are regular beauty appointments. They can be booked in a salon, or simply getting together for some nail painting. Either way it should be a time to chill and relax rather than worry about all the lists.

2. Take The Load Off . So your duty as bridesmaid might seem as simple as organising the hen and turning up in a gorgeous dress. We say to really rock the bridesmaid role you need to remember to think about the little things you can do to take the load off the wedding couple. It might be something as simple as cooking dinner for them one night, or being on the ball with knowing how to button the dress. Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.

3. Do What You’re Told. OK we know this one may touch a nerve (particularly if your bride has any zilla moments), but for this bit of life we suggest the best approach is to do as your told. If there’s a list with timings – best to stick to it. If you’re asked to not wear stilettos so that you are a similar height to the other maids – for once ditch the heels and embrace flats. Day after the wedding? Well you get to resume friendship (and stilettos) as normal.

4. Be the Hostess. When it comes to the wedding day, remember you are part of the bridal party team. That means you should help make people feel welcome. On the morning we say be in charge of the champagne (and make sure Mum’s glass is never empty). Later in the day, look out for guests that are on their own, or the school friend you met at the hen. Your bride will love you for helping create the atmosphere.
