Woodland, barn

+ DIY weddings

at Comrie Croft

It was love at first sight when we set eyes upon Comrie Croft (and that was before Gerard Butler popped in for a visit the other week!). We’ve been dreaming of watching the snow fall from one of their Nordic katas ever since. If you are looking for an alternative venue for a DIY woodland or barn wedding, then this could so be the one. We caught up with Ellen Haste, wedding co-ordinator extraordinaire, to get the backstage chat on this magical place.

Tell us a little more about Comrie Croft – how did it all begin?
It all began as a farm situated just outside the quaint village of Comrie. The farm was home to chickens, sheep and cattle with a few fields for arable farming. The farmer at this stage decided to add to the business and transform what was farm outbuildings into a bunkhouse destination for groups, families and friends.
The current owners took over in 2008 and added an eco-friendly campsite to the mix and started building all the famous Comrie Croft bike trails.
What’s been the highlight so far?
The highlight of Comrie Croft so far has got to be when Gerard Butler popped by for a cuppa in the Tea Garden of course! Haha…… no the real highlight has to be speaking to couples the day after their wedding and hearing them say how ideal the Croft was for their special day, made even more special by the fact that they got to decide exactly how they wanted it, which really enforces the great aspect of DIY.

What do you love most about Croft weddings?
I love that Comrie Croft weddings are always different; from tug of war competitions, to festival weddings (even with wrist bands!) to Harry Potter creations, the list goes on!
DIY is what it is all about here at the croft. Couples choose everything they wish, which is why it is so interesting for us to see everyone’s ideas – every wedding really does have its own personal stamp.
We have been hosting weddings for 10 years now, and hopefully for many years to come.
We love your alternative honeymoon suite! Tell us more about the Nordic katas…
Think falling asleep to the sound of trees swaying in the wind, crackling fires inside and out, cosy sheepskin rugs and lots of space too!
In three words, Comrie Croft brides are…
Comrie Croft brides (& grooms!) are imaginative, brave and really cool – everyone will be so amazed at what you have done to the barn!
