From the proposal on the Brooklyn Bridge to the gorgeous flowers and rather fabulous bespoke dresses, we are head over heels in love with Abby & Mat’s wedding style. And did we mention those shoes! Be still our beating hearts. Their Scottish country house wedding is the perfect way to kick off the weekend.
Who saw who first?
We were introduced by a mutual friend. We very quickly realised we were soul mates and after four years together, Mat proposed to me in New York on the Brooklyn Bridge.
We were inspired by…
Rose gold which I love! It started with the dresses and carried on from there. We had rose gold table runners with ivory chair ties to make it a very elegant wedding.
The bouquets were White O’Hara, Sweet Avalanche, Vendela and Quicksand Roses, amazing colours I didn’t know existed! The men all had stunning White Thistle, Vendela Rose, Sage Greenery.
Tell us about your venue…
Balbirnie was the first and only venue we visited. We loved it as soon as we drove up the drive. The staff immediately made us feel very welcome and it was everything we wanted in a venue. We had a lot of people travelling so we were looking for a venue that had enough rooms for everyone to stay and also somewhere we could have a gathering the night before our wedding – we really wanted to have a two day celebration. The staff were great throughout the whole process. Christine and the girls looked after us throughout the planning, always on hand to answer questions and help with anything straight away. Angela on the day was just amazing, she seemed to be just behind us whenever we needed her and just made everything run unbelievable smoothly. It is such a beautiful venue and the staff are very slick.
How did the photography go?
Herculine and Ryan (of Ryan White Photography
) were absolutely amazing from start to finish. From our first meeting with them, we knew straight away we would choose them. They made us feel so comfortable. We weren’t particular keen on being photographed but we enjoyed ourselves so much with Herculine and Ryan during our engagement shoot that we felt so excited to have them there and photographing us on our wedding day. They recommended lots of suppliers for us which was very helpful. On our wedding day, Herculine and Ryan were absolutely wonderful with us and all our guests. They made it so much fun for everyone and all our guests commented on how fantastic they were. Since receiving our photos we have been just amazed. They are better than we could ever have hoped for. The way they put the slideshow together and all our photos allowed us all to completely relive the day and we absolutely loved it. Herculine and Ryan are unbelievably talented and exceptionally lovely people and we have and would highly recommend them to anyone.
Tell us something surprising about your day…
We had the craziest mix of weather. One minute it was glorious sunshine and the next it was snowing! Bizarre!
Your dress is absolutely beautiful – how did you find it?
I originally went to see Mette (at Freja Designer Dressmaking
) about making my bridesmaid’s dresses. I was after glamorous rose gold sequin dresses for my bridesmaids and had emailed Mette some photos. She immediately started sourcing materials and very quickly had quite a few samples in for me to choose from. It was on my first meeting with Mette to see these samples that I saw some of the wedding dresses she had made and I decided to discuss my dress with her. She really helped me choose a style and material which was just perfect for me. It was a perfect, fuss free and easy way for me to choose a wedding dress. The thought of going to lots of shops to try on lots of dresses did not appeal to me at all. I tried on two dresses and from that Mette made the perfect dress for me! Not only did she make me the perfect dress, she made absolutely stunning bridesmaid dresses, a gorgeous bow for my baby niece out of the bridesmaid material and a beautiful jacket for my mum. She made our fittings and all enquiries such a pleasure and she was so accommodating with all our fittings. Mette is a very talented designer and dress maker and I would highly recommend her. All of our dresses far exceeded my expectations.
What did you choose for your first dance?
We choose Lucky by Jason Mraz for our first dance and the band sang it beautifully. They played a mix of music including some ceilidh dances throughout the night which went down very well. They kept the dancefloor full all night and ensured we had a brilliant party and perfect end to our day.
Relax and enjoy everything from the planning to the day. It’s such a wonderful special day for you, your family and friends. If you can spread it out over a couple of days go for it, makes it last longer!
It is where Mat was born and where I grew up. It is such a beautiful country to get married in.
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
I think it has to be the fun we had with all our family and friends, we both had a complete blast and will always look back on the day with a big smile on our faces!
My inner magpie is all aflutter. I am so in love with these bridesmaid dresses, aren’t you?! Christina x
