People, place and simplicity inspired Sonia and Diarmuid’s wedding in the heart of Glasgow’s merchant city. We love everything from their romantic first date to their rustic styling and personal touches (like Gran singing). Lots to inspire…

How did you first meet?
We met when we were in the same class at University in Ireland. We instantly became friends and as time progressed our close friendship grew into love.
In April 2007 when we were out in a nightclub together, after a few drinks, I (Sonia) plucked up the courage to tell Diarmuid I “liked” him. Disappointingly at the time Diarmuid told me he wasn’t ready for a girlfriend, so I left him in the nightclub and went home, feeling a little sad.
I then went home to Waterford for the Easter Summer Holidays and Diarmuid surprisingly found himself feeling like a “love sick puppy”, so he then decided he would come and visit me at home.
When I returned home to Cork the second time for a while in the summer I was pleasantly surprised by a text from Diarmuid saying “Do you fancy going out for dinner?” So we met and had a brilliant night. It was so brilliant we had our first kiss in the beautiful and romantic setting on Patrick’s Bridge in the rain.
Our wedding day was inspired by…
People, place and simplicity. We had family members and friends perform pieces of music during and after the ceremony (Sonia’s gran sang her down the aisle). Tables were named after places dear to us. Diarmuid’s mum handmade the save-the-dates, invitations, place cards and seating plan in a simple, rustic style.
Where did you find most of your wedding inspiration?
I was obsessed with We Fell In Love before the wedding and constantly looked up various suppliers it was actually where I came across The Gibsons as one of the weddings they photographed was featured. I used the blog to find inspiration for themes and accessories for both myself and the bridesmaids.

Tell us about your venue…
Arta is an absolutely stunning venue – having the wedding on Sunday meant we had exclusive use of the main bar area/courtyard and restaurant upstairs.
I would describe the venue as a little touch of the Mediterranean in Glasgow. All of our guests were so intrigued as you really dont know what to expect from the outside. It is truly a romantic and beautiful interior hidden in Glasgow’s Merchant City.
David Smith our wedding co-ordinator was unbelievable throughout the whole process he was there at every step and ensured that the day went without a hitch.
Any surprises on your day?
The majority of guests hadn’t experienced a humanist wedding before and it was nice to see and hear their reaction.
Our celebrant fell during a crucial stage of the ceremony (she laughed it off, as did the rest of us).
And one of the groomsmen spilt red wine on my dress just before the first dance!
Tell us about your wedding photography…
Chantal and Scott were absolutely fantastic from our inital meeting at their house to the big day itself. They kept in contact regularly and were so interested in finding out about Diarmuid and I as a couple.
We loved our engagement shoot in Balmaha somewhere really special to us both and they captured some fantastic shots in one of our favourite spots.
Looking back at our photos and how they were captured brings us right back to the very moment. We have built up a fantastic relationship with them both and class them as friends!
