Tastings, Beauty Regimes
& Leopard Prints
As you read this the lovely Lucy will be on hen in Dubai. Not that we’re jealous – at all! Turns out April has been rather a busy month for her. From tastings to beauty regimes and a little bit of shopping, it’s been all go. We love Lucy’s planning…
“Almost all of my RSVPs have been returned (has any bride ever had all of them returned on time I wonder?!) which means that numbers can almost be confirmed. We are still around the 88 guests. Andrew and I had originally wanted a small wedding of around 50 people, but then we started to write our guest list we had 72 and that was only family! It was really, really hard to decided who to invite all-day and who to invite at night. We have kept day guests to family and closest friends – people who are very dear to us and that we regularly spend time with.
“Two weeks ago we had our food tasting with Wilde Thyme. In a word – WOW! Everything we tried was delicious, it surpassed our expectations which were very high as we are really ‘foodies’. (Everyone thinks Andrew and I love Las Vegas because we are big party people/gamblers… no, it is the city with the most Michelin Star restaurants!). We travelled to Comrie with our mothers and met with Chef Andrew Hamer and his team. We watched him prepare the food as he discussed the ingredients, where the food was sourced from, the cooking process, etc. I’m so excited for the food at our wedding already!
“I have also been back to visit my venue, Carlowrie Castle, to meet with the manager Jen. She is very efficient and I feel confident in her ability to handle all things castle-related regarding the wedding. We have developed a good relationship both personally and professionally, which is so important.
“I just love going to the castle, it makes me even more excited about the wedding. Before I was engaged I went to visit the castle for its soft launch opening. I came home that evening and said to Andrew, ‘Whenever we get engaged, I think I have found our wedding venue’. Little did I know that Andrew was already planning the engagement! So the venue was an easy choice when the proposal came.
“While I was at Carlowrie, I met with Ricky from Nightflight to discuss DJ equipment and lighting. The Orangery at Carlowrie, where we are getting married and holding the evening reception, is a beautiful room. In order to change the mood at night, Ricky is going to add some uplighters and maybe a couple of cheeky disco balls to help create a party atmosphere. I want guests to dance all night – I know I will! DJ Josie Smith, I’m sure, will make that happen.
I was so excited last week to travel down to West Kilbride to pick up the bridemaids’ dresses. I love their dresses so much and cannot wait for the girls to wear them. I really wanted something a bit more contemporary than the ‘normal’ bridesmaid dress, whilst still having a classic and elegant design. Opus Couture were excellent – I loved their dresses and their staff.
Sharon, the owner, has such a passion for her job and it just oozes out of her when you talk to her. The shop is spacious with lots of different designs so the whole experience for shopping for them was very enjoyable and not at all stressful.
“The bridal beauty and body regime is still in full swing. I have always been a gym bunny but I have been trying to go more classes such as Metafit and Body Attack, as well as running and using weights in the gym.
“I have also been getting laser hair removal at the Butterfly MediSpa in Glasgow. I am loving the results so far! It’s so good to not have to shave my legs and underarms so often, I can’t wait until I am hair-free! Lorna, Ashleigh and the team are fantastic. They have a machine called the Soprano Ice, which is the best on the market for long term hair removal (much more effective than I.P.L.). It is painless and quick, the worst bit of the whole process is wiping away all the ultra-sound style gel they use! I would highly recommend it to any brides (or grooms!) to be.
“Last week some of my friend’s organised a wee mini home hen for me in Glasgow. They called it Lucy’s Leopard Lunch and, as the name suggests, it was a leopard print theme. Anyone who knows me knows I love a bit of animal print! We had great fun making cocktails and also a delicious meal in Chaophraya. They really went to such an effort.
“The official hen is almost upon me and I still have no idea what the itinerary is! I just can’t wait to have fun in the sun with my family and friends. It’s been difficult to pack – I must say I have packed a lot of white but hey, I am the Hen! With it being such a busy time planning my wedding and planning our clients’ weddings, I’m hoping that the getaway might give me a few days to relax… but probably unlikely!”
Anyone else admiring Lucy’s pace with wedding planning? She definitely deserves a bit of chill-time on hen (if that’s possible!) Can’t wait to hear about it… Alie x
Lucy & Andrew are planning their wedding at Carlowrie Castle, West Lothian. “White and Gold and Modern Classic – in keeping with the venue” describes the feel of their wedding.
