We met in the Cayman Islands at a work function….we both work for the same company. We dated for about a year and then took a trip to Paris (on the way to Scotland to meet the family) and on our last night in Paris, we took a bottle of Champers and Strawberries to the Garden of Tuilleries, and thought it would be romantic to share our last sunset in Paris. He set up the camera for what I thought was a photo, when in fact it was a video, so we have the whole thing on film. We also realized afterwards, that he proposed at 7pm on July 7th (7/7/7) which was pretty special!
Tell us something surprising about your day…
It was honestly the most amazing day (and weekend) ever. Everything came together without a hitch (and if it didn’t I was never made known of it– thanks Cheryl!) Everyone was blown away by the effort put into the day. We really wanted it to be incredibly personal for everyone there (as there was only 50 people). So we gave everyone welcome bags with our favorite things inside…..as well as the place cards set at the table, were all individual letters to each and every person present. We really wanted everyone to know how important they were to us, and how much they are loved by us.
How would you describe your wedding dress?
To. die. for. Sophisticated, romantic, structured…….heaven.
And Blake’s outfit – how did he pick it?
Blake was ready and willing to wear a kilt for our big day, which I thought was AMAZING! He wanted to honour my Dad by wearing his Clan Tartan – Cameron. So we chose the Ancient Hunting because we loved the unique, muted look. Lochcarron of Scotland is an amazing company, and the ladies were so lovely when taking Blake’s measurements, giving them their expert opinion on what looks best! The guys all wore Modern Tartan to compliment the Groom’s tartan, as well as the girls’ bridesmaids dresses. I think all in all everyone looked incredible and my husband was just so handsome.
What did you choose for your first dance?
The first dance was both romantic and so much fun! As I mentioned before, Blake and I live in the Cayman Islands; but our wedding party are from all over the place; USA, Cayman, Scotland……so when we decided we wanted a fun choreographed surprise number, Blake and I had to figure out how to teach the rest of the gang the dance moves!
So, we filmed ourselves in our living room of our home in the Cayman Islands, and sent the video to our gang! Needless to say I think two people actually viewed the video! So the NIGHT BEFORE the wedding, we did a run through of the dance (TWICE!) and thought we were ready to rock n roll! It was hilarious and a great success and everyone really enjoyed it. The photos are epic.
It is your day. Make decisions for the two of you and no one else and most importantly have fun in every step of the planning!
My entire family is from Scotland (Jaime), and it has always held a very special place in my heart. Blake and I live in the Cayman Islands, and it’s an awfully long way to travel for my family living in Scotland; and more importantly, for my Grannie. So we knew immediately Scotland was our location, but I can honestly say I never in a million years dreamed I would be married in the most beautiful Castle in Scotland!
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
Honestly, the moment I locked eyes with my groom. As cliched as it may be, it was the most amazing feeling in the whole world.
I love Jaime and Blake’s first dance – especially the fact that they managed to choreograph it with their bridal party via film! Inspired. Alie x
