We love everything about this magical autumnal wedding. Wet, wild and windy on the outside, yet filled with love, laughter and loads of fun on the inside, it’s the sort of party you’d never want to leave. And just wait until you see Sharon’s wool wedding dress…. swoon…

Love at First Sight or Gradual Attraction?
We were first loves many years ago! We went our own separate ways and met up again 17 years later!
How was the question popped?
Colin proposed to me in my favourite restaurant, Chapter One on our 1 year anniversary. It was really appropriate! We had been to Canterbury and I’d spotted and fell in love with an engagement ring. Colin drove back, bought the ring and kept it hidden for weeks. Colin is not good at keeping a secret so this was extra special for me!
Our wedding day was inspired by…
Autumn, our family and friends and our love & journey. Colin loves the outdoors and I love design. I wanted our wedding day to feel intimate and I had always adored Ross and Emily’s wedding in Friends in the old run down church; it was the intimacy that captured me and my wonderful super women, Laura and Natalie, from Lemonbox Studios “got” what we wanted down to a tee!
Tell us something surprising about your wedding day…
The amount of people in tears and how well behaved our daughters were!

How did you pick the music for your wedding?
We wanted a really cool ceilidh band that could sing modern songs as well as guide a useless bunch through the various Scottish dances. Jim Jam were perfect.
We had Enya “Only Time” to walk down the aisle and “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers walking back up the aisle. Our first dance was Halo by Beyoncé. This song is incredibly special to us and sums us up really! We laughed at how long we felt the song went on for whilst all eyes were on us trying to move in time to the music!
What is your advice for future brides & grooms?
Seriously consider getting some help from wedding planners. Lemonbox are AMAZING! It may initially seem expensive but they more than pay for themselves. I really really couldn’t have done it without them.
Only have who YOU want at the wedding! It’s your day and you should share it with those people you love and want to be there. We had no evening guests as our view was, if we don’t want you there during the day why would we want you there in the evening. Maybe a bit harsh but…
Why Scotland?
Why would you get married anywhere else?
What’s the one thing you’ll never forget about your big day?
Seeing the room dressed for our meal; it made me cry at how beautiful it looked. Seeing it all come together was amazing!
We would do it all again in a flash and change absolutely nothing. Our daughters were amazing and all looked beautiful (we have 7 daughters all of whom were our bridesmaids). The magic of the whole day is truly unforgettable.

Wedding dressFreja Designer Dressmaking I knew exactly what I wanted… I didn’t want a traditional wedding dress. I wanted a wool/tweed wedding dress that complimented our autumnal wedding feel and Colin’s kilt. It was very difficult finding someone to take on the challenge of a wool skirt & a wool corset! Most of the wedding dress makers didn’t want to work with the material! Then I met Mette 😃 Bring it on was her attitude! She knew exactly what I wanted, she drew it and then made it in 2 weeks!! Voila! What’s even more amazing is the fabric. Moon upholsterly fabric for the corset and stole and wool and cashmere coat fabric (from eBay) for the skirt!! Mette is unbelievably amazing and an absolute dream to work with!!

Accessories – My pearl necklace was my Great Aunt’s, earrings from good old TKMaxx and my bangle was a wedding gift from my 3 eldest daughters with a “first dance” charm!
