Today’s couple fell in love while living in Australia and have set up home in Scotland, where they were both born. For their big day, most of their guests were travelling from further afield, and Kate & Michael were keen to show them Scotland’s beauty and wonderful wedding traditions. With hits of cobalt blue, sparkle and super pretty flowers, plus a whole lot of laughter and smiles, their country house wedding is sure to brighten your weekend.

Who saw who first?
We met one sunny day in Cairns, Australia when Michael walked into the backpackers I was working in and asked for a job. I said no. Fortunately my boss saw his potential and we got to know each other for a couple of months before Michael carried on with his travels. Luckily for me, he came back and after another year in the sun we decided to head back to the UK. We set up home in Edinburgh and on my 30th birthday in Rome the big question was finally popped!
We were inspired by…
Fun, family, friends, food, love and laughter.
Tell us about your venue…
The venue perfectly matched the relaxed but beautiful atmosphere we were after. The food was a big priority for us and it didn’t disappoint. They were able to recommend suppliers and provided lots of guidance during our planning. On the day, Sarah made sure all ran smoothly and the all the staff were all really friendly and professional. The kirk was a truly spectacular place to be married and the marquee was ideally suited for the reception.
And something surprising about your day…
How incredibly quick the day went. We had been warned by others this would be the case but it really did fly by.

How was the after-party?
We opted for a live band who could also do a ceildh and the Aye Dhus managed the two perfectly. The ceildh was cracking, called with fun and patience. They performed our first dance song (Ho Hey by the Lumineers) which was really special and they judged the mood of the crowd to make sure the floor was full all night. It was wonderful seeing everyone having so many laughs on the dance floor.
Any advice?
Take some time just the two of you, away from the madness of it all. Our venue were brilliant and organised a couple of moments during the day to allow this and it was really special to be able to enjoy a quick catch up. So much of the day is spent with the guests, which of course is wonderful, but a short time to reflect together was lovely.
Why Scotland?
We were both born in Scotland, although also both grew up in England and now live in Scotland again, so it is a place really close to our hearts. Most of our guests don’t live in Scotland so we really wanted to be able to show off this beautiful country and its wonderful traditions.
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
So many individual moments but the overall unforgettable thing was how easy it all felt. Everything came together and meant we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy every part of the day and night.

Great advice to take a little time together on the day, away from it all. We couldn’t agree more! Christina x

PhotographerEnaMay Photography. Becky was amazing! From when she visited us at home to talk through our booking to all our dealings after the wedding, she has been professional and warm throughout. She took the time to get to know us and totally got what we were after from our photos. We are so happy with the results and a number of guests commented on Becky’s lovely manner and how unobtrusive she was on our big day.
FloristBloemen Eke. We were so happy with our flowers. Our colour scheme, including cobalt blue was always going to be a bit of a challenge for the florist but Sarit managed it with style. Our bouquets really brought the bridesmaid dresses and the men’s kilts together and the table flowers and buttonholes were beautiful.

Wedding dressEssence of Australia at Kudos Bridal Boutique. Catriona ordered the lace and created the bolero from scratch. The dress was beautiful but I was keen to have more on the top during the day and it was great to be able to take it off for the evening. It felt really special but being able to dance was key!
