When it came to choosing a wedding venue, Katie & Callum fell in love with a very special place on the west coast of Scotland. With a palette of white, pale blue & pale pink, plus lots of Glastonbury inspired touches, it was a super pretty and very fun day. Enjoy their remote and romantic Scottish wedding.

Who saw who first?
We met at Glastonbury festival in 2010 through mutual friends. It turned out we both lived in Glasgow, so we arranged to meet up when we were back and feeling human again… The rest is history! Callum proposed during a surprise weekend away to Pitlochry.
We were inspired by…
Once we had chosen Crear, we knew that the view from the reception would speak for itself and didn’t want too much decor to detract from it. We opted for long trestle tables so everyone could chat and mingle. As we met at Glastonbury we decided to go for a Glastonbury theme. We named our tables after the stages and constructed a festival sign table plan. Our stationers, 2flux made us mini festival sign table names and the order of services were lanyards on blue ribbon! I still wanted it to feel like a wedding, so we combined all this with a palette of white, pale blue and pale pink. Callum loves VW campers, so I hired one as a wedding present for him. We took it over to Islay for our mini-moon after the wedding.
Tell us about your venues…
I first saw Crear on a wedding blog and immediately knew it was a special place! However at about 3-4 hours drive from Glasgow, where we live, I was hesitant about viewing it – I had a feeling nowhere else would compare if we did! Well that turned out to be right, it is a stunningly beautiful part of Scotland. Beautiful, peaceful and secluded with the most amazing views and countryside. I’m from the south of England and we felt Crear would be a great way to show all my family Scotland! Crear itself sleeps 12 and you get it for 3 nights. This was ideal as it meant our families who were travelling a long way could stay. We really wanted to have our ceremony in a church and Crear recommended the lovely minister Rev Carruthers at the sweetest little church down the road.

And something surprising about your day…
How amazing and somewhat overwhelming it would feel to have so many people we both love together in one place and there to celebrate with us. Nothing can prepare you for that feeling!
Tell us all about the dress shopping…
People always say that you just know when you find ‘the dress’. I’d tried on quite a few that I liked and started to think maybe I wouldn’t have that feeling. Then my bridesmaid and best friend, Liz picked the Eliza Jane Howell for me to try on… I actually didn’t like it on the hanger! But as soon as I put it on I just knew! I’d wanted something floaty that I could dance in that wasn’t too fussy or tight. I wish I could wear it again!
Any advice?
Do what you want to do and don’t worry about what other people think. It helps if you marry an accountant with a love of spreadsheets who can keep an eye on the budget! Also, all the little things you think won’t take long to sort out will take much longer than you think!
Why Scotland?
Callum is Scottish and I’ve been living here for 13 years. It’s such a beautiful country and one of the reasons we chose Crear was for the opportunity to showcase Scotland’s stunning scenery to our families!
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
Walking back up the aisle as a married couple with all our friends and family there was an incredible feeling. We chose Dire Straits’ ‘The walk of life’ for this, which was perfect.

I love the sound of Katie & Callum’s VW camper road trip. Is anyone else planning a mini-moon? Christina x

PhotographerTandem Photo. Tandem were fantastic to work with and instrumental in the smooth running of our day – we don’t know what we’d have done without them! Audrey is so friendly and approachable, they felt like friends rather than photographers and we loved working with them. The photos came out incredibly and I love their use of light in the pictures.
FloristCrear Flowers. Mel was my hero on the wedding morning! She went above and beyond to make sure our day was exactly as we’d liked it. From making all the flowers and decorating the room, to helping my mum assemble the wedding cake, she was amazing! We had met a few times before the wedding and used a Pinterest board to collect ideas. She really got the theme we wanted exactly and we were blown away by the decor on the day.

Accessories – I wore my Grandad’s bangle as my something old. He passed away in 2006 and I was very close to him. This made it feel like he was still part of our day.
Groom’s outfitHector Russell Kiltmakers. Callum loves to tell everyone how he had the cheapest outfit. He had recently bought his tweed jacket and waistcoat and wanted to wear them for the wedding! We bought tweed ties and kilt socks from House of Bruar and hired the best men and ushers jackets from MacGregor and Macduff.
