Magical Winter

Cakes and Koalas

Melodie + Chris

Big respect for these two as they work their way through cakes, koalas and get crafty with jam jars. Just listen to all they’ve done this week, amidst handling some sad news from Australia…

“Well, there’s some big fat ticks on our to-do list this week again! We made some progress with the cake design and the flowers.
Heather had a great idea to use a world map as a feature on the cake and have little hearts over our home towns, some details highlighted in colour and sugar flowers to tie in with our rustic wild theme – I CAN’T WAIT to see (and taste) the final product!
“We also popped into Planet Flowers to deliver over 100 clip on koalas for the sprial staircase feature, so I’m super keen to see how this unfolds too!”
“Mum and Chris and I also spent a day being all crafty and have completed all 100 favors, 50 stubby holders and 50 jam jars filled with Scottish and Aussie sweeties. We are feeling pretty organised and that’s been under 2 months, it’s scary but I love it!

“While we were in Oban last week I got a bit of bad news from home: my dad had a positive test for bowl cancer. It’s never an easy thing to hear or to deal with.
“He was immediately booked in for surgery on Monday last week but we had to wait a few days until he visited the doctors for the MRI results. My older sister Jen is a CCU Nurse so she flew from Victoria to Adelaide for the appointment and to make sure everything was in order. It’s a massive relief to know that Jen’s there overseeing things in my mum’s absence. Luckily its stage 1 which is the best case scenario we could have asked for and the surgery should be all that he needs to help fight it. Jen’s husband has also just had surgery so she’s left one recovering husband to look after a soon to be recovering father! She may need a break after!
“Dad’s recovery time is 8 weeks, which pretty much takes him up to the wedding date. The thought of my dad not being there is pretty hard to swallow just now, I know it could potentially mean my mum won’t be there too if she’s taking care of him. As hard as that is to consider the most important thing is everyone’s health so we’ll deal with all that if and when we have to. We’ll be keeping everything crossed for now. The surgeon also recommended that travelling economy might be difficult and going business class would be advised – I see what he’s doing now..! Happy to report though that the surgery went well and dad is straight into recovery mode.
“Once we could relax a little we got back on track and Mum came along to the rugby club this week to watch some of the RWC 2015. I think she was reliving her youthful party days a bit, so much so that I’m feeling slightly concerned that the wedding could get a bit messy now!

“We also went through to Edinburgh and visited Rachel Scott Accessories. Amber was so helpful, she showed us all kinds of veils and accessories. We went through options for veil lengths, details, sparkle, stitching and more. I’ve chosen a single tier veil with some lace detail and some lovely gold sparkly earrings – you’ve just gotta love a bit of sparkle!
Once that was sorted we went along to Rachel Scott Couture so I could pop into my frock and show mum. I was feeling a bit anxious leading up to it. I don’t know why, I know I love my dress but I guess its just the standard nervous doubt you can get. Once I saw it again I was at ease: it’s so beautiful, it feels amazing and the material is so soft! I got all jacked up with a veil and accessories for maximum effect – mum loved it! It’s been so nice to have her here so she could be included in the planning. Rachel went over alterations and we are expecting it to be ready for the first fitting at the end of October/start of November.
The following day mum and Chris went along to Hopetoun House to check out the venue and I was back in Edinburgh again with my pal Jac for my hair and make up trial with Eyecandy Scotland. I’m used to being the one doing my friends’ hair and make-up so it was just soooo nice to sit back and get pampered! Here’s a wee sneak peak at the side of my hair – Gwen and Lynne were so fab, they totally listened to my ideas and were on point with the kind of style and look I want for the day.
Wow – Mel and Chris are blasting through this wedding planning business, even with being hit with difficult family news. We’re all sending huge get well wishes and hopes of a speedy recovery to Mel’s Dad. Alie x
