Cake and Surprises

Melodie + Chris

This week, Mel and Chris quite literally had their cake (and ate it). Just reading about it made us drool… With the wedding forms completed it really is all starting to become pretty real. Want a sneak peak of their invitations? Just scroll…!

Mel and Chris

“So many times I’ve had wedding cake and it’s been pretty impressive on the outside but has been ever so disappointing on the taste side….but not Heather’s Cakes, they deliver on both fronts!
“Mum and I came home after our day in Edinburgh and I waited for Chris to finish his back shift….I waited and waited and I swear time was moving slower than normal! I had just given up and was taking myself to bed when he came in the door. I literally jumped for joy and ran to the door, cake taster box in hand squealing that I’d been waiting for sooooo long, lets eat the cakes!!!! (I may have already had a wee slither of each just for quality control you know 😉 but he wasn’t to know that. A few years ago I gave up cake for lent, just to see if I could do it – worst 40 days of my life!)
“Anyway, chocolate ganache, lemon, vanilla sponge, butterscotch/toffee, red velvet, and carrot cake were all on offer and I’m happy to say that the cake verdict is in! Chris loves his good old Victoria sponge so thats made the cut, as has the glorious carrot and toffee cake – they are bloomin’ scrumptious!”

Mel and Chris Handmade wedding rings

“On another note, my mum brought over some jewellery from home she no longer wears, including one of her wedding bands. She had it split to wear on either side of her engagement ring and she has bequeathed it to me. I feel really honoured to be able to use it as my wedding ring, its nice to have a wee keepsake like that.
“We popped down to our jewellers and they’re going to concave the shape of it slightly as I have these cute little stones on the outside of my engagement ring I’d like to keep on show. So that’s my ring sorted, now let me tell you about Chris’s…
“As we got engaged earlier this year, we had decided on a longer engagement and thought we’d get married in 2017. I was really touched with all the effort he put into getting my ring and wanted to do something similar for him. I asked my friend Sarah who helped her with her wedding jewellery and she put me in touch with the talented Nicola Morrisson who I later found out is my personal trainer’s sister – small world!
“We went back and forth with ideas and emails for weeks and she sketched up a few designs based on my ideas and then created a lovely bespoke engagement ring for Chris. It’s a thick textured sterling silver band with two stones flush set. A ruby for his birthstone and an aquamarine for my birthstone. I gave it to him for his birthday in July just before the end of the competition. He totally loves it, however as things have fast forwarded slightly he has decided it will now be his wedding ring! So its sitting patiently waiting for that one day in November. (and apparently I now owe him another birthday present too lol) I’m really glad we both have something special and unique to wear forever.

“I also got around to sending off our wedding forms this week so this stuff just got real!! We were chatting to both our mothers who were telling us about the old posting of the bands – I’d never heard of it but apparently you used to have to post a sign up to say you were intending on marrying so that if anyone wanted to object they could! The registrar had a giggle when I asked her and said our mums were old school, we just post it for you in the office now so not to worry. Haha!
“Exciting news on the invitation front this week too – Twenty Seven have created us a stunning bespoke design!! (I think Gemma from Planet Flowers may have had a little something to do with that so thanks to you both) We are having quite a rustic and wild theme and Twenty Seven have come up with this gorgeous natural country coloured card and design that matches everthing perfectly, were so lucky, they look amazing!
The Southside Extra newspaper did another wee article on us this week too and Chris said he was ‘recognized’ in the bank, haha! They put a piece out for us during the competition and did a follow up showing Chris in his fetching wedding frock petitioning through the Merchant City.
“Got a lovely wee surprise in the post today from Rachel Scott, a little handmade bracelet, how sweet is she?

“As I’m finishing this blog, myself Chris and my mum (Mero) are chilling in Oban and the sun is shining, we’re going to be tourists for a few days. When we get back it will be time to get organised for our Aberfoyle engagement shoot with Elemental Weddings – need to find something to wear. Ooooh, mucho excitement!”
How much do I love receiving updates from these two? Anyone else excited by the rustic and wild theme? Alie x
