Springclean and Sparkles

Melodie + Chris

Before writing this week’s blog post, Mel mistakenly thought not much had happened. Erm, not much other than planning an exciting location shoot, eating cake, sparkle hunting and a touch of spring cleaning. If this is a quiet week for Mel and Chris can you imagine what it’d be like if it was busy?

Mel and Chris

“This week we’ve been trying to get things in order for my mum being over from Australia! Wedding planning has been paused for a quick spring clean. When we visited Australia, Chris and my mum discovered their fondness for having a wee tipple together. I believe they had one dry day the entire time we were over! I think they’re both a bit disappointed I haven’t finished my driving lessons yet so I wont be able to chauffeur them around!
“I’m really excited for mum to get involved in the wedding journey – not sure if she knows this is now a ‘working’ holiday. She’s brought a few things over to help finish off the favours and I’ve already got an appointment booked in with Rachel Scott so she can see my dress!
“So many things are beginning to come together and we have this awesome vision that’s coming to life. I’m going to be desperate to get to the venue to check it all out. I wonder if I can help set up?! I might actually be early to something for a change!”

Elemental Weddings

“This week we had a wee Skype date with the lovely Jay and Christina from Elemental Weddings – how amazing are they? They gave us a few ideas on what to expect and a bit of advice.
“Along with an A-MAZING suggestion of doing a little jaunt up to the countryside for an engagement shoot! My first thought was yay, fun then hmm, awkward – I always have at least two chins in a picture when I think I’m striking my best pose! However, Jay and Christina are so funny and relaxed and as excited as us I reckon it will be a breeze…
“Just like the rest of the WFIL team, they’re pretty familiar with Hopetoun House and we have absolute trust in them for our day. They’re all such nice people – seriously if you’re getting hitched then I strongly advise you to get on side with this team of suppliers! I took a cheeky screen grab below of our chat – Chris said he didn’t know the screen grab went both ways that’s why he’s looking away lol, he also said I’m to stop making fun of him on the blog – hehe.

Heather's Cakes 2015-09-08_0003

“Myself, Chris and mum headed off to Edinburgh on Monday morning so we could stop off at Heather’s Cakes. It’s quite hard to concentrate when you’re surrounded by all these amazing and decadent cakes, mmm! We brainstormed all things cake, real flowers, sugar flowers, dummy tiers for extra height, quirky Aussie and Scottish toppers, lace piping and so much more.
“We were browsing on Pinterest and looking through magazines and trying our best to translate our thoughts into cake talk. Heather is going to make up a few designs for us to go on and we can take it from there. I’m so excited! I’m pretty sure I wasn’t using all the right cake jargon, but Heather is so talented it still seemed to make sense to her. She gave us a wonderful cake flavour selector box to try…
“Next stop was Rene Walrus, wow! I am a massive sucker for a bit of sparkle and I’ve been known to get drawn mid-conversation into shops that sparkle, like a moth to a flame. We popped into the studio and were greeted by Janet who was totally fab, and possibly a little bit psychic…
“I was telling mum on the way up I’m thinking something gold, blush or rose for accessories and the first thing Janet picked up was just that! I hadn’t even mentioned my thoughts yet. She popped this gorgeous lace piece in my hair with little pearls and Swarovski elements and it was stunning!
“I’m trying not to give too much away re my frock and style for the day but I can tell you its something a little bit vintage, maybe matching a few specific eras of fashion, with a little original flare. Janet had this awesome idea to put something together in more than one piece so that in the future if I’m feeling like I need a bit of glamour and sparkle in my life I can clip one part in and save the full effect for super special occasions. She’s also going to look at creating some sister pieces for my bridesmaids to match their dresses. I’m going for my hair and make up trial later this month so I’m hoping to pop by the studio to try it all out together!”

Rene Walrus

We love the sound of Mel and Chris’ wedding planning. Great advice from Mel on trying her sparkle along with her hair and make-up trial. Inspired don’t you think? Alie x
