Popping the question
Melodie + Chris
It’s been another busy week for #WFILwedding winners Mel & Chris. From finalising the invites to popping the big question to three VIPs – their flower girls, there has been a whole lot of excitement along the way. And if that wasn’t enough wedding action for one week, they’ve also been blown away by the styling ideas from the incredible team at Planet Flowers.
This week’s agenda: finalise guest list and approve invitation design, ask flower girls, visit Planet Flowers
, book registrar, confirm hair and make up, order flower girl outfits – CHECK…..PHEW!
This week my lists have got a little bit out of control. I’m running out of places to stick my post-it’s to so I had to take myself to Paperchase to get a new diary. I love stationery (I’m a weirdo I know, but stationery is so good for getting organised!), and I couldn’t wait to get home and get my lists all collated into one place! Also, this meant that Christopher could just open up the diary to see what’s happening and when our next appointment is. If its highlighted in pink then its a WFIL appointment.
I finished the final touches on our flower girl invitation bags, filled them with a few of their favourite treats and a wee floral circlet. I love the idea of the girls wearing a wee circlet with real flowers in their hair on our big day.
It was Chris’s big sister’s birthday so off we went up to his folks. Everyone was there so we though it was the perfect opportunity to pop the question to his three little nieces! We sat down and passed out their invitations….they all opened them together and Chris helped them read out the card, it said;
We hope you say yes and lead the way,
Will you be our flower girl on our wedding day?!
They all said yes then made their way through their treat bags and ran outside. The girls aren’t normally shy, however, when all eyes were on them as we asked they didn’t have much to say! I’m so thrilled they all accepted, I know they’re going to be gorgeous wee flower girls. They used to ask Chris when we were getting married so they could be flower girls and once he proposed I went from Mel to Aunty Mel with immediate effect! I popped outside to see what they were thinking and I explained the idea for the circlets. They already had ideas for how they wanted their hair on the day along with requests for pink dresses!
Flower girl frocks to match the bridesmaids have been ordered and shoes purchased! I was looking for tights for the girls too but kids sizing is so confusing! I sent his sisters a message saying I was looking at them online asking if it says 6-12, does that mean the girls will all be the same size in tights? PMSL was the response I got because apparently it was 6-12 months, not years! So the new plan is for them to get their mums to buy their tights and we’ll reimburse them!
We sent our final guest list over to Twenty-Seven
this week and they sent us a colour card with some ribbon choices and a proof for us to approve so they can be sent to print! They have been so helpful and we cant wait to see everything once its printed, they’re going to be stunning!
Next stop was Planet Flowers
on Thursday. We drove through to Edinburgh and I was doing the standard selfie outside when Gemma opened the door and photo bombed it! We walked in and were greeted by these amazing giant carved hedges, huge vases, barrels, crates and mirrors all to help the ideas flow. I’d already been emailing Gemma and Suzanne back and fourth and they said they felt like they knew us already. We were hit with ideas from all angles; a giant moss backdrop with our initials (I never knew moss was so versatile), a feature space for the favours with little crates and colour, candle lights, lovely warm wintery colours for the bouquets and so much more….
Mel and Chris were more than a little blown away by the creative ideas of Gemma and her fantastic team at Planet Flowers
We have only visited Hopetoun House
once so far, but Gemma and Suzanne are Hopetoun regulars and they had so many amazing ideas to make use of key space and to compliment the venue. Gemma was telling us that her mum was a ‘10 pound pom’ – a Brit who migrated over to Australia back in the day. Turns out her mum used to live in the same place as me, how random is that! It meant she had a fab insight into the Aussie culture and has helped us to come up with some awesome ideas to incorporate a little bit of Australia into our day.
I asked about rose petals for the girls to throw up the aisle and she suggested we add some eucalyptus leaves too, it will look lovely and smell amazing. Gemma said her mum has a corner of her garden with some Australian delights, including a big eucalyptus tree which she has kindly offered to donate some of the larger branches for our day. Gemma also suggested we weave the branches through the spiral staircase with a few fairy lights and some of my clip on koalas so when you look up it would feel like you were standing under a gum tree at home. That just brought me to tears again! It’s so nice of her mum to make such an offer and what an amazing idea. I know everyone is going to love this! Planet Flowers
is more than just putting flowers in a vase. They really know how to take an idea and use it to express a personality into a day. I can’t wait to see how some of these things come to light!
Highlight of the day: Gemma’s dog Mac snuck up on Chris when he was in the loo and gave him the fright of his life – it was pretty hilarious and kept us laughing all the way home! Well, possibly me more than Chris!
We are getting a little giddy at the thought of a giant moss backdrop and warm wintry colours. Sounds like Mel and Chris’ wedding is going to be off-the-scale gorgeous! Christina x
