Magical Winter Wedding
Melodie + Chris
After weeks of gathering support friends, families and strangers from all over the world, the news that they had won the We Fell In Love Magical Winter Wedding finally sunk in. Amidst a weekend filled with driving lessons and work they still found more than a little time to celebrate. Here’s their reaction in their own words…
Mel’s reaction: “OH EM GEEEE!!! That’s pretty much where my head has been at since I got home on Friday evening and discovered the results! I had a driving lesson that didn’t finish until 18:30. My driving instructor kept joking about checking the results during the lesson and I had to keep reminding him that I was driving his car and I’m sure he wouldn’t want anything to happen to it! I finished my lesson and he wished me good luck. I walked into the building whilst rummaging through my bag for my phone. I pulled it out and saw a hundred notifications so I went straight into my emails. I had previously told Chris he could give me the news when I got in, but I guess the 30 second walk from the car to the flat was just too much for me. I scrolled down the email and saw our names and I couldn’t believe it! You know that feeling you get when you’re kind of floating in a moment, you’re there but not really there?! That was me…I walked into the flat and Chris had it up on the laptop to show me, gave me a big hug and told me he loved me. I think the first words I uttered were “Oh, I have so much to organise.”
Chris’ reaction:”As the team at We Fell in Love only had Mel’s contact details (and Mel was out having a driving lesson) I was waiting, constantly refreshing the We Fell In Love Blog page for the results. I kept checking Facebook too for news. I could see that my mum was ringing me, but I didn’t know whether or not to answer! When I finally did she asked if I knew and then if I wanted to know. I told her just to tell me then she burst into tears; Mel and I had won! I was a little shocked, excited, and happy but at the same time it felt strange as Mel wasn’t there with me. Mel arrived at around half 6 and she was in shock! We had a big hug and then before we had any more time for it to sink in my mum and dad appeared with champagne. Our phones were going nonstop too with all our friends and family congratulating us.
“Chris’ folks popped over shortly after with some bubbles and more congratulations. I messaged a few people quickly at home, my mum, my dad my sisters telling them they will be required here in November! I managed to have a few glasses of bubbles which helped to calm the nerves. Chris’s mum doesn’t usually drink and even she partook in the celebrations! To our amusement she was a bit merry when she left and was ready for a dance and a kebab! (She’ll kill me for saying that but it was too funny not to mention) Unfortunately I was working all weekend. Chris met with his best mate and soon-to-be best man later that evening for a few celebratory drinks and I think he did enough celebrating for the both of us as he was still suffering when I get home from work on Saturday!
“Over the weekend we spent a few hours at least looking at messages, emails, phone calls and notifications on our phones. The amount of support we have had along the way and well wishes we’re getting now is so heart-warming and overwhelming. Everyone is so overjoyed for us. People keep saying, wow I’ve never known anyone who’s won anything before and we keep saying, us either! I couldn’t wait to finish work over the weekend so I could get my pens and post-its out and start making lists. At the start of the year I hadn’t even thought about getting married, and was still in shock after Chris popping the question on Valentine’s Day in Australia. Now were getting married in 3 months!
“One of my co-workers made a silly bet with me, maybe half a wind up and the other half to egg me on. Andrew (yes its name and shame time) said “Mel, if you win, I’ll wear a dress all day in work.” Nothing like a bit of embarrassment to get motivated! So I’m off to the charity stores to select something for him to wear this week, I’m thinking something floral might be nice. Don’t worry I’ll be sure to get plenty of pics for next week’s blog!
“I guess all of our hard work paid off and we can’t thank people enough for all their support. I’m looking forward now to marrying my gorgeous fiancé at Hopetoun House, such an amazing venue. We are so excited to meet with all these fantastic generous suppliers and start bringing the dream to life – eek!
Wow – we are stoked for Mel and Chris and can’t wait to hear how all of their wedding plans take shape over the next few weeks and months. Brides-to-be any tips for where Mel should start with her wedmin? Alie x
