We Fell In Love
Happy #WFILwedding Wednesday! Today we’re catching up with the four fabulous couples who are competing to win the wedding of their dreams at Hopetoun House this November. From celeb retweets to baking branded cakes, they’re pulling out all the stops to secure your votes. Here’s all their latest chat…
“WOW! What a week it has been!! It’s only one week in and we are already on a non-stop roller coaster of emotions! It’s been so nerve-racking trying to pull as many votes as we can and we are constantly trying to think of creative ways to get people to vote.
“Our plan for this first week was to spread the word across all our social media networks. We created a Facebook page and have had such a fantastic response! So many people have been pouring in their love and showing support! It is overwhelming.
“We have tweeted our favourite celebs, gotten a wee write up on Pitchero and our proposal video is going viral! Our rugby club, Broughton Rugby, has been amazing in spreading the word for us. Luke even got face-painted like a kitten to get votes. We’ve got a few more surprises planned, but we can’t give away our secrets just yet!”
“Our wedding plans are coming along nicely as well! We have decided our official theme is Rustic Geek – you can see our Pinterest board here. A blend of everything we are. Luke is trying to convince me that we NEED a Batman cake. It’s still up in the air.
“But our colours are officially earth green, champagne and white. We want to do rusted film reels as our centrepieces with flowers bursting out of them. Our invitations will look like formal red carpet invites, our head table will have a cinema marquee behind it, and a superhero photo booth is already in the works.
“We have a very clear idea of what we want our wedding to look like, now we just need to win a wedding! The very thought that Luke and I could be Mr & Mrs by November is so surreal! We want this more than we’ve ever wanted anything! And we’ve got a lot of work ahead to make it happen.”
“In one word, this week has been – HECTIC! In a good way, of course. We are so thrilled to be part of the competition and the news of making the final four couples was unbelievable. It has been a busy, busy week for both of us and we are feeling a mixture of excitement, nerves and absolute joy. We would be truly blessed if we won this competition, it would mean everything to us.
“The reaction from everyone has been brilliant! We have had a lot of support from family and friends. The only person I haven’t seen yet that I wish I could is my mum. She is working away at the moment so I can’t wait for her to get home so we can have a drink together to celebrate! The reaction from Lee’s mum, Lorraine, was priceless! She picked me up from work on Wednesday and when I got in the car and shut the door we literally SCREAMED with excitement for a good few minutes before we headed home! It really is lovely to have everyone behind us.
“What have we been doing to raise profile for our votes? Facebook, Facebook and more Facebook! We are definitely going to look into other avenues though! I wish we knew some celebrities!”
“We are only at the very beginning of our journey when it comes to planning. I have no idea where to start if I am completely honest! Lee and I are complete opposites in day to day life – however by the looks of things we have a lot of similarities when it comes to ‘formal’ dos! We would like to make the most of the stunning venue, and envision an elegant and personal day. Our colour scheme is definitely looking like dark purple/plum and golds. We still like the idea of purple and silver though, so who knows; it could all change! You can view our Pinterest board here.
“Music will be a big part of our wedding because it is a huge part of who we are and how we met. As long as there is good music we are bound to be happy! I am giving no clues away regarding dresses; however take note men… we want to see you all in kilts!
“The most important thing for us though is that the day is full of fun, love and laughter. We would love all of our family and close friends to be there, dancing the night away and taking home some beautiful, lifelong memories.”
“Well what a week we’ve had! I have enjoyed a wee glass of wine or two and filled a notebook full of wedding ideas and Christopher has been working hard in Halifax, Canada recruiting voters, but cunningly disguised this as a “Rugby Tour”.
“Our friends and family have been shocked and excited! It was a bit more challenging trying to explain it to my folks in Australia, but nevertheless my Dad’s on the case and contacting everyone he’s known since 1964 to ensure their vote! Our friends have really rallied up support, with Facebook shares from the restaurant we visited after getting engaged to The Real Housewives of Melbourne. We’ve been actively visiting our local community and telling them about this amazing opportunity, everyone we’ve met have been so kind and encouraging – we can’t thank them enough for their support.
“I love cake and absolutely LOVE baking! I’m going to bake a few cupcakes this week, maybe with our wedding theme colours. They’ll be branded #WFILWedding with our faces on top! A cupcake will be free with a vote! I’m getting the customers and staff at work involved too – I work in Gregg’s and all the Glasgow city centre shops are involved! I have a bet on with one of my co-workers, if we win he’ll wear a dress all day in work, embarrassment is always a good motivator! You’ve got to be in it to win it, right?!”
“We’re absolutely buzzing and so excited about all the fun things planned in this campaign, never mind the excitement of our actual wedding!! Talking of our wedding, here’s a little more about our vision for the day! You already know we want colour, fun and we want involvement! We want traditional Scottish with a quirky Australian edge. We want people to be excited from as soon as they arrive. There will be handmade signs directing the guests in, a cocktail on arrival, a guest check-in station, a polaroid selfie opportunity! A photo booth is a must, ideally with a winter wonderland or an Auzzie theme, coupled with some funny props – you can view our Pinterest board here.
“We want rustic centre pieces, glitter covered jars with flowers, wooden wine crates with flowers and candles set in sand on tree stumps. We will have little clip on koalas to go up the stems on some of the flowers. Cards with some funny Aussie slang words for all the locals to try at their seats and some real Scottish sayings for the Australian contingent to have a go at saying too.”
“What a week we have had! When we *finally* got to let our secret out the bag my phone almost broke! The lovely people wishing us well & voting for us was fab & we’re blown away by it all. We’ve had friends & family all over the world voting so far, as well as here in Scotland too! Everybody we know is amping about it!
“We have been super motivated. Aside from Facebook spamming our nearest & dearest (if their dogs could vote we’d spam them too), we have been trying to get votes from the local area, we are local to Hopetoun after all! I’ve asked my clients at work to vote & posted to local forums too.
“But alas Kyle has been busy also! He arranged for a shout out on Kingdom FM to ask their listeners to vote for us on their primetime show & they couldn’t have been more helpful to us! Thanks Kingdom FM, not only do they unapologetically play S Club 7 regularly, they also are an awesome local station… what a combo!”
“Our style is totally rustic – you can view our Pinterest board here. We want to DIY as much as possible with our favours, our settings & create a natural feel. Hopetoun estate is lovely and to bring some of that character indoors to the decadent stables & reception would be amazing. It does tend to host very classy weddings and, while we’re all about the class, we also want something that hasn’t been done at the venue before too, so are trying to focus on that by adding quirky touches.
“Wildflowers & warm orangey colours will play a big role, from in the hair to the tables! The warm and homely farm feel would continue into the reception with the fireworks & we would add bales of hay, lanterns and sparklers!”
