Magical Winter Wedding

Competition Finalists

Catherine+Lee

For Catherine and Lee, love began over a mutual passion for karaoke and all thing musical. An uber-romantic proposal (complete with beach scene and diamond ring), has set the tone for a wedding day that is going to be planned perfectly. Here’s their story…

Catherine and Lee

“After having lived away from home for the last 4 years, I was in my local bar trying to integrate into society again, looking for some familiar faces in our small village. Eventually I was greeted by a bar man whom I remembered from years ago who told me there was karaoke in the village that evening. With my passion for singing, I couldn’t refuse! I finished my drink at the bar and was introduced to another bar man – Lee. He seemed nice, but ever so overly flirty! I thought ‘here we go, one of those guys!’ In all honesty, it definitely wasn’t love at first meeting. So I went along to the karaoke bar, but once I heard Lee sing, everything changed. His sound was a mix of jazz, swing, country, and some contemporary rock. I loved it. However it did make me nervous to sing in front of him! Thanks to karaoke, we found a mutual love of music, and the rest is history…
“We have now been together for 3 and a half years and in that time we have had our fair share of ups and downs, but we have stuck by each other through thick and thin. It hasn’t always been easy, and we are both as stubborn as each other, but it works for us and we are happy in our relationship and have always spoken about marriage since our first few months of even having met.
“So in December 2014, I, Lee, and his family ventured off to Cuba for New Year and birthd celebrations. I was really excited as it was also my 26th birthday while we were away too. So many celebrations in one trip! The last thing I expected was a proposal too!
“He ideally wanted to propose on my birthday, however it happened 2 days early, on the 7th of January 2015. I was told he had booked us a 3 course meal at one of the hotel’s lovely restaurants. We decided to go for a short walk before dinner to enjoy the grounds of the hotel and the sea air. I noticed a table and chairs set up and stupidly said ‘Ooh…there’s nobody there, let’s go and have a quick sneaky peek before anyone else gets here!’ So, we did. I kept looking around making sure nobody could see me snooping; Lee played along very convincingly the whole time. Eventually I panicked as I saw a waiter appear and I tried to think of an excuse for us being there; I cannot believe how gullible I was! The gentleman told me to take a seat, asked if I would like some champagne, and that he would be our ‘butler’ for the next 4 hours. His name was Frank and he could not have been more attentive and polite. I was genuinely shocked, and couldn’t keep the smile off my face that Lee had taken it upon himself to organise this for my birthday!
“As we waited for our desert whilst listening to the gentle waves, and the playlist on Lee’s phone (had to have music in there somewhere!), Frank appeared again with a spectacular desert; a pineapple which had been carefully and beautifully carved for us. I was so impressed, even if I had secretly been hoping for chocolate! After another sip of champagne I opened my pineapple and was blinded by a stunning 18 carat gold ring with 15 diamonds sparkling up at me. I literally didn’t know what to say or do. I was speechless – which is COMPLETELY out of character for me! I looked up at Lee and his smile was beaming! The classiest part of the proposal was when he picked the ring out of the ice cream and shoved it into my mouth to clean it before getting down on one knee! Of course I said yes – it is a moment I will never ever forget and I will treasure it for as long as I live.”

“Our plans now are obviously to get married! So far 2015 has proven to be a great year; and the icing on the cake would be to win our dream wedding through #WFILwedding.”
Our dream Scottish wedding would be elegant and sophisticated, with the overall intention of everyone having an absolute ball! The colours would probably be purples and golds, incorporated into bridesmaid dresses, flowers, and overall decor. Our ceremony would be extremely romantic and meaningful.
I already have ideas regarding my dream wedding dress…but that would be telling!!!

“I couldn’t think of anything more perfect to end what has been the happiest year of our lives together so far. Here’s to many more years together, and MANY more happy memories.

Reading this love story about a couple whom I have met simply at the karaoke bar, has honestly brought me to tears (of joy). Such a beautiful story, I had no idea Lee was so romantic! You most definitely have my vote. All the best to the two of you. I hope you win!!! If so, I would love an invite! Lots of love, Haley xReplyCancel
